How do you ladies clean out you're hair brushes when they have hairspray junk and such in them?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for your ideas! :) Mine aren't expensive brushes either but I like to keep things nice for as long as I can. I occasionally use hair spray but most of the brushes are left over hair I can't get out since I have a bit longer than shoulder length hair. Sadly, we don't have a dish washer and rent so won't be putting one in either. Once again, thanks for all the tips. :)

I clean them as bat possible by pulling any hair out of brushes. Then I put them in heavy hot shampoo water. Dry on a white towel.

I think I'm repeating another response and I'm not a hairdresser! This is what my hairdresser told me to do!! I don't hair spray... Mine is just regular use.

I use amonia. Just pour some over the brush in a bowl and let it set for at least an hour. Then take it out, pull off the hair. I use a small handled comb, to poke the handle down between each line of hair and pull up; the hair is really easy to remove then. Good luck.

Use a comb to remove any hair, then soak in the sink with shampoo and HOT water. Use the brushes and combs to scrub the others then rinse and air dry.

Good, natural bristle brushes will last FOREVER!

I don't use a brush (curly hair) but my mother is a retired hairdresses (40+ years) and here's how she'd do it...

Remove all the hair, soak in VERY hot water with shampoo, then lay on a towel to dry thoroughly. That's it!

I usually do the comb through, like the others said, and then I put it in the dishwasher. I haven't had a problem yet, but I don't buy super expensive brushes so I guess I wouldn't care too much if it got ruined!

I have a really nice Mason Pearson hairbrush that I have had forever. When it gets gunky, I take a fine comb and use it to get as much loose hair out of the bristles as I can. Then I fill the sink with hot soapy water and let it soak for a while before using a washcloth to scrub off any hairspray residue on it. then I just let it dry out on a towel before I use it again. I probably do it every few months- whenever I notice it, lol.
