I am a huge fan of wax! I come from a family of hairy women and I've waxed my upper lip for years. I originally tried a cream and found that the hair grew back stubbly as you described. However, I find that the hair grows back softly when I use wax. I use ZIP (that's the brand) and I used to be able to get it at CVS, but now I order it online at Lee Pharmaceuticals.

Hope this helps!

I would guess that if you let it grow out a little bit and then have it waxed off you could probably stick to waxing from here on out. I wax my upper lip myself, and I know a lot of women must wax their upper lips and chins because these items are on the waxing "menus" for salons. This is not something to be embarrassed about! I think you have to let it grow out a bit in order to have it waxed, so you might want to choose a time when you won't be out much if it bothers you, but remember that this is not a big deal. Likely no one else notices it, and once you start waxing instead of shaving, it will not be noticeable at all.

A more permanent, but more expensive route is electrolysis. I had a friend have some done and raves about it but it's costly. You could get it waxed every 3-4 weeks but that can be expensive. Good luck!

Hello,
In the long run your better off with laser or electrolysis. Its costs more but worth it. For the amount of time of waxing or threading you could permanently have it done with laser or electrolysis.

Good luck!

Hi J.!
I suggest waxing. Let the hair grow out a little and get it waxed. When you wax, the hair grows in thinner. When you shave the hair comes back thicker. I've worked in a salon and have a really good friend that is an esthetician. She's said that laser hair removal is ok but it's expensive and a long time commitment.

Good luck!

Stop shaving!I think it makes it thicker.
First I would get checked and make sure you don't have a hormonal imbalance. Then, I would either get laser to remove the hair, or they also make creams. Check witha derm or hair specailist.

Hi J., Hair Today Gone Tomorrow is currently offering some summer specials for laser treatment. I would recommend that or threading.

Good luck!

Hi J..
I don't know where you live, but Devon street has tons of shops that are owned by woman that are Indian. They do "threading". I do my eyebrows but I have family members that get their face threaded. It's only about $15 and it lasts a long time. If you are near the south suburbs, Urmi's Salon in orland park is great. Good luck!

First and foremost, stop shaving. It will only keep the hairs thick. Try waxing. I use Veet wax strips for my upper lip. Or you could go to a salon. But you may as well try one of the strip sets you can get at the drugstore first. It will stay smooth for at least a month, and will get finer over time if you keep up with it. I've been waxing my bikini line for a little over a decade, and now there are areas where the hair simply doesn't grow anymore. If you want more of a permanent solution and want to make the investment, look into laser removal. Hair Today Gone Tomorrow has a free trial, and their prices aren't too bad when you compare them to the lifetime cost of waxing.

Shaving is going to make the matter worse. Makes the hair stiffer stronger and more course.

If the hair is darker, ( not blonde) I would suggest looking into laser removal. It is the best value and it is permanent.
Electolysis works, but not really permanent and a large time commitment. Eventually it works.

First of all, please do nt think that you have to shave it because of something you did a long time ago. That's an old wives tale. It's all genetic and ormonal as to how hairly we will be. That being said, I am half Italian so I feel your pain :) What you can do is get it waxed. Eventually the hairs come in finer or not at all. The ouch factor also decreases over time. I used to have to do my brows and lip about every ten days, now I can go two, sometimes even almost three weeks...not shabby...and that is also because I am very anal retentive, and I work in a salon. The other thing you can try is facial bleach if you are fair skinned. Hope this helps.

Hi J.,

Is the hair on your lip/chin really thick? If it's not that bad, have you considered maybe letting it grow out and just bleaching it? I've seen products in the hair removal or lotion aisle and it's supposed to bleach your facial hair so it's hardly noticeable. Just a thought because it would be cheaper than electrolysis. Good luck!
