I haven't been there in a long time, but I have tons of friends who go every year. It's really built up a lot and they have TONS of family activities -water park, amusement/go-cart place, all sorts of shops and restaurants -and of course the beach. It's very pretty there. We used to go every spring break and usually in the summer. They have a huge outlet mall as well. If it's still there and still as good, go to the Gulf Shores Steamer -best seafood EVER! Don't shy away from the heads-on shrimp. Leaving the heads on makes them twice as good!

I won't go back since the oil spill. There is still toxic oil in that water!

We have been to Gulf Shores 4 times, including a week last summer. The water and beaches were perfectly clear and there was no sign at all of the gulf spill. We enjoy The Beach Club condos, it is a little out of the city of Gulf Shores, but we enjoy a more relaxing vacation. They have great pools, lots of activities for kids of all ages, the beaches are pristine and the on site restaurant is outstanding (but pricey). The resort complex includes a small market, ice cream and coffee shop, gift shop and spa. We go into town for a least a couple of meals, the seafood last summer was plentiful and delicious.

Hi, we went there last August. I was very disappointed. There really wasn't much to do that you couldn't find to do around here minus the beach.

Hey - I grew up in that area and love it. As someone else said, there are water parks/cart areas. We actually rented a conda down there a couple of years ago and just enjoyed the beaches and the condo pool and the water park. But, don't forget these things:
1. The USS Alabama is a great tour.
2. Fairhope, AL is a great little community with lots of fun shops/coffee shops.
3. Eastern Shore shopping center has everything you could ever want for shopping and it has a splash pad.
4. Tanger outlet shopping in Foley has tons of shopping.
5. Pink Pony Pub is great for a burger and fries and people watching.

Good luck!
L.

I've been there- wasn't impressed. If you want beautiful beaches, drive another two hours to the panhandle of Florida. The beaches of South Walton are the best.
