Hi J.. My name is M. and I am a hairdresser. There is not a day goes by that we don't have at least one child in that has decided to cut his/her own hair. I think it's a right of passage or something. There really isn't much you can do to make the hair grow faster...everyones hair grow a average of 1/2 inch per month. The only suggestion I can tell you is take them to the salon and have the stylist trim their hair up and get it as evened up as possible. Then just keep the scissors hidden for a while. Then take the girls in for a trim about every 4 to 6 weeks until it is grown out again.

I'm sorry I can't help you with the hair growing part but maybe something to help with their "self-esteem" about it. Olive oil. It is basiclly known to be healthier yes, but it also give you a "shiny coat". Sounds funny I know, but it really does. Several months ago, I switched from veg. oil to olive oil in my foods and it does make your hair & nails shinier and just overall makes it look healthier. Having shiny hair might help them "forget" about it being too short for them! GL!

I have heard that drinking Knox gelatin helps hair and nails grow faster. It is sold in the baking section of your supermarket...it is an unflavored gelatin mix, just add it to water. The box has the proper instructions for preparing it to drink for hair and nail growth. I think you can even add flavoring to it! I tried it a few times in high school, it's not bad and does help. I just forget how it tasted, because i graduated 16 years ago!!! Also, i was going to suggest the prenatal vitamin idea. Only if your daughters are old enough! Sometimes, the best thing is time. Perhaps this will just have to be a life lesson for them! ;) My middle daughter is now 7, and a good year ago, she cut her own hair too-a big chunk out of the side by her bangs-we spent a year with barrettes waiting for it to grow back! Good luck to you!

Talk to your pediatrician. I know teens and adults can take prenatal vitamins and that helps (mostly because of the folic acid) but I don't know if they are bad for kids so young.
7 kids before you're 30?! God bless you, you must be pulling your hair out, too! :)

Nothing can make hair (or nails) grow faster than your body's natural rate. If your health and diet are bad, your hair will be brittle and may grow more slowly, so the protein in gelatin and the vitamins in a supplement might help, but if you're healthy and well-nourished it won't make any difference.

During pregnancy most women's hair falls out at a slower rate, leading to thicker hair. That's probably how the myth about prenatal vitamins helping hair growth got started. The truth is that it has nothing to do with the vitamins and everything to do with pregnancy hormones.

A good hair dresser should be able to make a cute short style out of whatever they did themselves, but unfortunately only time will make your daughters' hair longer.

i don't know how old they are but giving them a multi-vitamin everyday will help hair growth. If they are teenagers prenatal vitamins are great for that. it's just a multi vitamin with a little extra.

My two little ones just did this too! My daughter has been saying how she wanted to grow her hair looooooonnnnnng. So much for that for a while! I just took her to my hairdresser and asked her to make it cute. She gave her an adorable summer "do" and we'll just let it grow through the summer. I've heard the Mane and Tail idea, but think about it-you hair grows from the inside and that goes on the outside. Good luck!

There is not really anything you can do.Don't feel bad. Almost all children like to play "hairdresser" on their own hair one time or another! Just find styles to try to hide it.
good luck!
