It seems like when I go to the grocery store, I pick up the same old tried-and-true things.
Do you do this too?
Sometimes I think I could go around the store in my sleep!
Lettuces
Cucumbers
olives
onions
potatoes
bananas
grapes
watermelon
cantelope

sandwich meats
rices
chicken
pork chops
ground beef
yadda yadda yadda
Sound familiar? What are YOUR mundane things? Maybe it will spice up my list!
S H -- on the weeks I am organized, I try to have the weekly menu & shop from that and it's SO great, but--sigh--not every week is organized for me. I just HATE grocery shopping!

We can get into this same rut too.. But tonight we are having grilled salmon, wild rice, snap peas and a huge crispy salad.
I think this weekend I am going yo make BBQ chicken, red potatoes potato salad O. day. Grilled sausage wraps, raw veggie salad , watermelon. and another day maybe some grilled pork ribs..
I noticed our grocery store had ham on sale so many purchase that and make up something, yummy.
Here's O. for you - add a fresh taco night to your week.
List:
Avocados (I use 1 to 1.5 avocados per person)
Roma tomatoes (1-2) chopped
1 Red Onion diced
1 Yellow Onion chopped
1 jalapeno pepper diced
1 bunch cilantro chopped
garlic - need 2-3 cloves minced
1 lime - halved
1 package corn tortillas
1 jar salsa (or make your own)
1 bag tortilla chips
1 bag frozen cooked chicken or fajita beef strips
Guacamole:
- mash avocado in a bowl
- add tomato, raw garlic, jalapeno pepper, 1/2 the cilantro bunch, salt & pepper to taste, and the red onion (about 3/4 of the onion if you're using 3 avocados; whole onion if you're using more)
- squeeze the juice from 1/2 the lime into the guacamole
- mix together & set in fridge
Tacos:
- heat the meat on the stovetop in some chicken stock and a little bit of olive oil to rehydrate it and add more flavor, then put into a bowl once done
- put the chopped yellow onion, the other 1/2 of the cilantro, and the salsa in little bowls for taco condiments
- heat your corn tortillas right before serving everything
- serve with the chips & guacamole...the guac is awesome ON the taco too, with the chicken or beef, raw yellow onion, and cilantro. YUM
*** If you ever get the chance, buy an authentic tortilla warmer - it will change your life!! A friend of mine got O. for me in Mexico for $5! You heat your tortillas, put them into a towel to keep them warm, then serve. The tortilla warmer can even bring tortillas that have started to lose their soft texture back to life!
what? no wine, beer, or margarita mix?
actually i dont drink so I dont buy them either.
I just discovered a spinach basil pasta at Trader Joes. Has some taste to it and is great with spaghetti sauce or olive oil.
My mundane, every-shopping-trip-purchase is medications.
OMG you must be me!
I HATE grocery shopping!
I make a list every week. And a menu.
At least it keeps our budget in line.
We were the same until I got a 'groupon' type deal for a meal-planning service called The Six O'Clock Scramble. Each Wednesday I get an email with 5 dinners/side dishes based on what foods are in season. I can print them along with grocery list, or customize the list for our taste/needs. I cross off what we already have on the list and shop for the rest. Its really cut down on impulse buying and gotten us out of the same old rut. I'm not exactly thrilled with the meals and may not re-new once my 'groupon' thing is up, but I'll definitely look into other similar services. Good luck!
strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, bananas, pasta, milk, juice, grapes, green beans, corn, romaine, cabbage, melon, bread, pitas, bagels, tomatoes, cheese, chicken on occasion, lima beans, edamame, and baby sausage on occasion.
We eat all the fruit raw, the veggies, lightly cooked and i hate to cook meat, so we often have rice or pasta, with our fruits and veggies. I sometimes do sandwiches with lunch meats. Or have a side of some bread or carbs. The kids of course love fish sticks, baby sausages, and chicken fingers(bell and evans), which I don't mind cooking as much as other meats. My kids do not like tofu or other meat substitute, and I occasionally get hot dogs without nitrates.
I feel much the same--like I get the ame stuff all the time.
So is it your trip to the store that's boring or are your food choices the same old thing?
If it's the former, I sometimes buy myself a mocha at the grocery store or a ceap ($1.79 magazine).
If it's the latter, I watch the cooking channel for new recipe ideas.
And I got some great ideas here. :) Thanks mamas!
Oh and other mundane tasks and how I spice them up:
laundry - have baby help, play music
cleaning bathrooms- reward myself w/a cheap trinket (.99 cents)
vacuum to music
outside work: p/u dog poop to music, turn on sprinklers for child so I can get some other things done outside, clean patio furniture then have a nice outdoor dinner
clean entire house - lunch w/baby & girlfriend then next day
cheap treats at the Dollar store and thrift store :)
bread, eggs, cheese, milk, juice, rice, sugar, vegetable oil, chips, popcorn, oatmeal, chicken, bananas, potatoes, yogurt, diapers--sounds as boring as your list...lol, but it's the basics
Milk
Eggs
Sausage (my kid loves sausage for breakfast every morning)
yogurt
crackers
We almost always get avocados, peppers, mangos, strawberries, tomatoes, broccoli or cauliflower, asparagus or artichokes if on sale and tofu. I stock up on meats when they're on sale so our freezer is full of ground turkey, chicken breasts, roasts of all kinds, etc.
