Ok my question is how do I get my 8mo ds to quit grinding what few teeth he has, he has both bottom front one top front that's pushed through just a little and one that's pushing through now, how do I get him to quit grinding the bottom against the 1 top one that's through? Or is it a lost cause?

What can I do next?

I think at this age it is just reflex to the new teeth and other teeth coming in..

Adults that grind their teeth are usually stressed.. but for an infant it feels good to grind their teeth. Helps with the soreness.

Mine have done that too. They all stopped on their own. It wasn't a big deal, but it was quite the sound that made me cringe!

My daughter also did this as a baby...I could hear it! Talk about an awful sound! However, our pediatrician said not to worry about it, she'll stop on her own....and she did! No worries.
Good luck!

Give him something to chew on instead. Try a variety of teethers with different textures until you find one he likes better than his own teeth. Good luck.

They stop on their own but the more you react the more they will do it so try your best to ignore it :)

Our dentist says you actually want to ENCOURAGE infants and toddlers to grind their teeth. It's part of the teething process that not only helps cut new teeth, and takes the *sharp* edges off of baby teeth, but that the pressure and motion helps form strong roots and helps to lay a dense calcium layer on forming adult teeth (just like you need pressure on your bones, or you suffer calcium loss in your bones).

Talk about an annoying sound, though, no?

My daughter use to do it for a few months & stopped on her own. She is now 4yrs. old. I think she was around 2 when she did it. I forgot about it until I read this post LOL!! I don't think it's anything to worry about.

I think it's temporary. My son did the same thing for a few week but then stopped. Don't worry.

My son did that for a while and pretty much stopped. I would say no and put my finger between his teeth when he did, but I don't think it helped. He eventually just stopped doing it.
