Hi I am planning my son's 2nd birthday party. We plan to have it at our home and there will be between 40-50ppl, that's including at the most 8 to 10 children. Mostly close friends and family. We usually make homemade pizza and have meatballs(homemade) and sausage sandwhiches and I make salad. We order the cake. Does anyone have any simply/delicious recipes that both children and adults would like? Please share if at all possible.

What can I do next?

Lisa's recipe sounds awesome ( I'm gonna have to try that!). This is somewhat like her idea, well maybe not really. Anyway, you could always do a big pot of chili and then have hot dogs. So the guests have a choice of just plain hot dog, plain chili, or a chili dog. Then you could have condiments for both like, shredded cheese, sour cream, tortilla chips, onion, ketchup, mustard, etc.. I'm sure you get the idea. That won't be too expensive either. I always love chili in the fall time. Maybe you could do like a fall/harvest theme.

Here is a great EASY dip recipe. I have it at all my parties. Kids love it too.

Brown 1 tube of sausage
put in crock pot with 2 packages of cream cheese and 1 can of diced tomatoes with green chilis (I buy the Rotel brand)
serve with chips (preferably scoops)

since you have 40-50 people, I suggest doubling the recipe. This is something you can premake a couple days in advance and just throw it in a crock pot a couple hours before the party. Makes for better planning so you are not cooking the whole day.
Have fun and Happy Bday to your little one! :)

At my son's fourth birthday party recently I had a buffet of grilled cheese sandwiches- regular american cheese on whole wheat for kiddos and bland palattes, provolone, fresh tomato and basil on whole wheat, and mimi's grilled cheese (google for the recipe or e-mail me and I'll send it to you if you want it)- a sandwich with parmesan crusted bread and four different kinds of cheese in it. We had veggies and dip, a fruit salad and cake to round out the spread. It was cheap and everyone seemed to like my take on a kid favorite.

For my daughter's upcoming birthday I'm thinking of doing a buffet of different kinds of quesadillas (we have a love afair with cheese here as you can see).

I've also done a party with build your own panini (if you don't have a press you can use a George Foreman or a skillet with a cast iron skillet on top of it to mush down the sandwiches).

When my son was two one thing we had on the menu was pb&j sushi- make the sandwiches, roll them flat with a rolling pin, roll them up and cut them california roll-style.

Another thought- a chicken finger buffet- some with breading, some naked, some dipped in wing sauce, with a variety of sauces for people to dip them in. Add tortillas and some fresh chopped veggies and people could make wraps too.

Good luck!

I did pulled pork sandwichs. You need one pork shoulder, and your favorite barBQ sauce. Put the pork in the crock pot over night with 1 cup water and what ever spices you like. The morning of just take a potato masher and mash the pork like you would a batch of potatos (it just falls apart.) Mix in a container of your favorite barBQ sauce and that is it. I use regular bread instead of buns because it is cheaper. You can also use bone in pork shoulder and then you have a soup bone for late rin the week to make 15 bean soup or any number of things.

I just had my son's 1st bday party and served pulled pork and pulled beef BBQ sandwiches. Everyone loved them and it was easy. I put a pork shoulder roast and a beef round roast in crockpots the night before with a little water, garlic powder, onion powder and black pepper. (seasonings are probably not necessary) and let them cook all night, turning them once in the am. Once the meet was falling apart, we shredded it and took out the fat and grizzle. Put the meat back in the crock pot to warm. We served on buns with BBQ sauce on the side for people to add. It turned out so good and we got so many compliments! Adults loved it and although we didn't have many children there, they did too. Good luck!!

(PS - I read some of the other responses AFTER posting mine and smiled when I read Sandra's. It was so similar! Must be good:)
