We researched many dance places, as my daughter is now 11 - we had to make a change two years ago, so we did look around quite a bit. She has been at Hathaway Academy of Ballet for the past 2 years, and she LOVES it. She felt welcomed there from the beginning (which is important, since transition and "fitting in" can get rough at her age). It depends on what you are looking for, though. Hathaway's focus is classical ballet and they also offer jazz and modern classes (maybe hip hop, too). It is NOT a competition dance studio. They are focused on correct ballet technique, which we considered important. It is a nurturing environment. There should be no problem in participating in spring recital, since they have not ordered costumes (and do not go crazy on costumes for recital time - ballet dances are done in their class leotard with a skirt, costumes are ordered for jazz, modern, etc). We love that our daughter has the opportunity to perform in ballet productions, such as The Nutcracker (annually) and a spring ballet (Cinderella, this coming spring, I believe). Not sure how old your daughters are. I'd recommend visiting a few local dance studios and finding out what their focus and mission are. For us, we did not want to get involved in a competition focused dance studio, so that was one way we narrowed our search. Knowing what you are looking for in a dance studio will definitely help you find the best fit for your daughter/s.
Hathaway is located on McDermott Rd, between Custer and Independence. I cannot say enough good things about them and I know they would welcome you to come observe or even try out a class.
