I asked the question a couple of days ago in regards to a graduation gift for a dear friends daughter that nannys my kids in the summers. I realized by the answers that I need to refine my question a bit.

I do not want to give money since her family is quite wealthy and she really doesn't need it. Plus I would feel kind of cheap giving $50 to $75 to her and would like to find something creative and out of the box that she wouldn't expect. To give an idea, I gave my cousin a fun travel package of a small drink dispenser, matching sunglasses and flip flops, a towel, some sun tan lotions, etc. since she was finally going to earn real money and get to go on vacations once and a while now.

This gift doesn't really work for my friend as she will be moving on to a masters program so still in school and living off her parents for quite some time.

Thanks and sorry for being such a pain, I just want it to be extra special! =)

What can I do next?

College students love to get packages at school. Sending her periodic boxes with home-made cookies, canned foods, Tylenol, contact lens solution (if she wears them) little things like that are great. And they feel really good when their roommates get jealous

This is one of my favorite gifts to give for graduation. It's a large adventure duffle by LL Bean. I have it monogrammed for a young man and first name for a young lady (in case her initials were to change down the road due to marriage)

Have fun!

You could sponsor a child or donate to CAPBES (Colorado Association of Professional Black Engineers and Scientists) or GESTEM (Girls Exploring Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) in her name.

What kind of engineer? There are so many! I work with mechanical, piping, electrical, structural, etc.

You have recieve some great ideas. I might use acouple lol. We gave our niece a home made memory box. Its about the size of a bread box the lid had a latch on it to keep it closed. In side I put acouple pictures of her grandma and her, us and her ect... Then the kids made her cards and my husband and I wrote her a letter that had some memorys in it and letting her know how proud of her we were and what a wonderful woman she is becoming. She still has the box and puts things in it. I hope this helps. Good luck it really is hard to find that one thing that tells a person how special they are to you.

Maybe a gift basket with something school related -- like a cute notebook, some magnets, pencils/pens. Borders at Park Meadows has some cute stuff. Maybe even some picture frames, and a small gift certificate for her ipod or whatever device she uses. Relaxation stuff is always good -- like heated eye pillows or aromatherapy. Check out www.etsy.com for some ideas, too. I look there when I need a unique gift.

Go to the store called 'Things Remembered' we have one here in Fort Collins. I'm sure there is one in Aurora or somewhere near by.They have all kinds of wonderful gifts and everything is engrave-able. You could have it engraved with her name and/or the date of her graduation, or with a little phrase, something that's personal and she will cherish always!

My mom always gave my friends the Dr. Seuss book, "Oh the Places You'll Go" along with a nice frame for them to display their diploma. When I graduated, the gifts I enjoyed the most were the simple things that I wouldn't think of getting myself. A charm bracelet, a necklace from the University, a massage/facial/pedicure gift certificate, etc. Where she is going on to a masters degree maybe a nice, comfy pillow or a "survival kit" with treats, tylenol, school supplies, encouraging words from you and your children, stuff to get her through the long nights of studying and anything else you can think of that fits her personality.

A charm bracelet. You could give her one with a couple of charms on it for her to remember your family and kids by. That way, it's something that each year she can add to, her family can add to... it's a lasting gift that can be very personalized.

God Bless -

To be cutesy about it, since she's going into Engineering, you could do something with a train theme....

- a silver-plated train clock
- a train phone
- an engraved railroad spike
- a charm bracelet with a little train charm

For several of my more academically-oriented relations, I've gotten fancy laser pointers engraved with their name.

It's a nice item for people who occasionally make presentations in front of a large group, and the price ranges from fairly inexpensive for a red laser pointer to a bit more for the new blue laser pointers. I think for most people red is great. (I get green or blue for my physics or engineering friends for the "wow" factor.)

How about a gift certificate for a massage for all her hard work. Most people love that and don't take the time for themselves.
