My 7 month old son has started goofing around at meal time, but only with the bottle. He gets hungry and I get his bottle and he just knaws at it and won't really eat. But if I take it away because he's making a mess he screams. So I give it back and it starts all over again! At least twice a day he does this and it takes 45 to 90 minutes to feed him. I tried just taking it away and not giving it back, forget it huge fit. So I am forced to feed him while he is being silly, what's going on??

He already has his two botton teeth and Hedoesnt want much to do with the sippy cup, I tried that.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Still workin on it, He is eating solids, 3 times a day and if givin the choice between a teething toy or bottle, he still wants the bottle. I guess I will have to give it time and see what happens, but I will certainly give anything a go at this point!!

I was thinking the same, maybe he is cutting some teeth. You could try giving him a sippy cup instead of the bottle. The nuby sippy cups have a soft spout like a bottle and they don't leak! Will save you from cleaning up the huge mess he's making. Good luck to you.

Hi C.
I'm a Mom of 3 Grown kids,& a granny to 8.
It sounds to me that your little dude is wanting solid food. My 1st granddaughter was doing the same thing, I think she was 6/7 months old. I fixed her some rice cereal and feed her, she ate got her bottle and was fine. Yes I know the Drs. say not to feed till a year, but I say BS, if he's fussing w/his bottle he wants something different. I started all 3 of my kiddos on rice cereal at about 4 months with no problems.
They 35,32,30 :)
Hope this is a help. Good luck, and have fun with your boy cause they grow up way to fast.

It sounds to me like he has learned a new game, or is cutting more teeth. Quite possibly both.

I would feed him cereal, or baby food, or whatever (My kids are mostly teens and I don't remember what they ate at 7 months!)

If he plays with the bottle by gnawing on it, take it away and give him something to chew on.... Or maybe give him something to chew on FIRST and if that doesn't satisfy him THEN offer the bottle.

Or, if the bottle isn't an option, maybe he would become more interested in the sippy cup.

Sorry I can't be more helpful, but those are my initial ideas.

Hi C.,

Is your son teething? It could be that gnawing at the bottle is giving him some relief from the pain.

I would guese he is teething. Try a teething ring, or other kinds of teething/chew toys. We had the kind that is made to put in the fridge or freezer (the cold helps num the gums). Any other kind of plastic toy that too big for swallowing in fine too, just wash in the dishwasher. Mouthing everything at this age is part of normal developement. You might also try rice cakes, grahm cracker, saltines, cherios kind of foods. These are things that disolve easily and get mushy, and he can use his hands, (but still watch him). Teething gel or lotions is another thing to try. Good luck, hope this helps.
