We use 'sound spas'. They are those little machines with several different types of noises. You can find them at Bed Bath & Beyond or even on Ebay. We LOVE them. They plug into the wall but also run on batteries-so if we travel we usually take 1 with us!! They are a life saver!!

Hi A.,

I use a white noise maker from Brookstone. I have twins who are now 7 1/2 and they still use them. It was my saving grace when they were babies. I just drowns out all of the other noises, like the phone, doorbell, etc. We even take them on vacation to hotels to drown out all of the unfamiliar noises of a place away from home.

Good luck!

We used a fan in my daughters room from the time she was born until just this last Christmas. For Christmas her grandpa got her a fishtank so I just went out and got a bubble bar for it and so the bubbles & the filter make a nice white noise sound for her now. (BTW - We sleep with a small fan on low on the floor of our room.)

We use a desk fan and place it on the floor so it is not blowing on our daughter. Turn it on low and you are good to go. Drowns out a LOT of noise.

Best we found was a classical music CD (something very soothing) that we just had repeat all night long. As they got older they get to choose what CD they want to listen to. My daughter still from time to time will ask to play a classical one (hers usually plays once and turns off now).

We use a HEPA Air Purifier in each of our bedrooms. It's also works as a great white noise machine as well as making the air fresher and cleaner. We've gotten so used to it that we take one with us when we travel.

I hope this helps.

We use the "Sound Screen." It's very effective at blocking out background noise without being distracting. It's small and very easy to take with us when we travel. They're available from several sources online.

Yep, we call it our rain. Because every room has a different brand of sound machine. They all have the rain option, and we all use that one. Ocean waves can be nice too. Got a Norelco baby one with a picture frame on it. It also has a little night light. Can't find a link to that one, but this one looks nice. LULLABY Homedics Sound Spa Baby Relaxation Machine. It has a nice little light show as well as rain noise. Google search baby sound machines.

We used a small fan for white noise. Just make sure you point it away from the baby so they don't get a draft.

Good luck

I went to Bed Bath & Beyond and bought one of there nature sound machines...it is small, fits on my daughters dresser. There is waterfall on there, rain, birds, heartbeat etc. We have always used the rain since she was 6 weeks old and she is over 3 now. I think it was only $20. Well worth it!

I use a fan. I don't know that she needs the noise, but I also heard it helps with Sids to keep the air circulating. I don't blow the fan on her, but she does great in her room with it on.

We usually just use a fan or a humidifier (in the winter). For my younger son we have a Homedics Lullaby Soundspa, which I love. It plays all different noises and a few songs, the rain sounds like white noise, and also projects a light show on the ceiling or wall. I love it and its small and portable. You can get one for about $25 on Amazon. I wish I had it when my oldest was a baby. I am a big fan of white noise while sleeping, I can't sleep without the fan on myself and my kids sleep better with it too.

my son had collic and the only thing would stop the five hours of non stop cring for a while was white noise.. I would fall asleep with the vaccuum on. lol i ruined my vaccuum and floor that way. But then i found this white noise maker on babysrus.com it is awsome its a great portable way to sooth baby. Aslo once you find what white noise works the best like if it's the vaccum cleaner tape record it so you dont have to leave it running.

I never used white noise for my son as a baby. I always just put a CD in the CD player on repeat - Laurie Berkner was always a favorite. Now at 4.5, I put on a jazz station at bedtime for him. He lets me know if I forget to turn on his jazz. :-) When I check on him before I go to bed, I just turn off the radio.

Homedics makes a sound machine or you can use a fan turned facing the opposite wall.
