Good Travel Bottle or Travel Formula Solution

We're taking our 2 month old son on a trip to San Francisco this weekend for my sister's wedding. (5 hour flight..... not looking forward to that) We'll be gone Friday afternoon through Monday afternoon. He likes Simulac Sensitive, but takes 6 ounces a feeding! The little tiny 2 oz. bottles are great for him, but he would drink 3 at each feeding. The 8 ounce travel bottles are too thick for some reason.... he spits that all up. We normally use Dr. Browns bottles and those seem to be the only nipple he likes.... Does anybody know of any travel bottles that would use a similar Dr. Browns nipple? (He didn't like the Playtex drop-in nipple....) I'm hoping I don't have to pack all of the bottles and the microwave sterilizer, since I'm not sure I'll have access to a microwave and wouldn't know where to dry out all of the parts, etc... Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

Call the airport or go on the FAA website to make sure but when I traveled with my son last year, as long as you had a baby with you, you were not limited to the typical fluid requirements.
Hope this helps,
K.

I agree with the other post. I always took a small bottle of dish soap with me, and one of my own kitchen towels or paper towels and I would hand wash the bottles, sippy cups etc, and then set them out to dry on my towel or the paper towels. If you bring a towel from home, I was very careful to always lay the towel out the same way (same side down) - by watching the tag, or making a little mark on one side etc. If you can't get anyone to prepurchase the stuff you will need before you get there, buy it yourself, and ship it UPS to your destination. (hotels will accept and hold it for you if you have a reservation) I also used nursery water, but if you can't get ahold of that I would definately stick to some kind of bottled water rather than risk it with tap water.
Take enough bottles on the plane with you on the plane for every lift off and landing, + 1 or 2 in case you get stuck some where. The baby can suck on a bottle and it will help with his ears while landing and taking off. I did this with my nephew when I flew to Maryland from Florida with him, stopping over in Atlanta. Worked like a charm!
Good luck! Have fun at the wedding.

Whenever we traveled w/our infant son, we would pre-measure the powdered formula in a travel container, like this: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3502347# and then mix w/water from a purchased water bottle at the airport (after security). That's the easiest solution...you can still use the Dr. Brown's bottles (we used those, too), but don't have to worry about keeping formula cold until he needs it, or buying expensive travel containers of formula. If you need to heat the bottle, just run it under hot water in a bathroom. You can take liquid formula thru security, you just have to tell them that you have it in your bag before it goes thru the scanner, and they will probably take you aside to search your bag more thoroughly. GL on your trip!!

Dear M.,

Since you have family at your destination, have them pre-purchase paper towels, liquid dish detergent and either bottled water or the Nursery Water for you (ask you pediatrician about the water). My pediatrician told me to use Nursery Water exclusively when I traveled with my infant son. I would declare it along with the all of my other baby products when going through security and I never had any trouble getting it through security. My son flew 26 times before he was 1!! Just tell the security people it is the special "floride water" for infants and look desperate!

You don't need a microwave sanitizer for the bottles, just wash them out in hot soapy water and then dry. I did this in hotels around the country with my infant. Is it convenient? Not really, but not much different than being home. If you are somewhere with a dishwasher, the hot water in the dishwasher is the same as sterilizing.

I learned that if I had a choice of hotels, I prefered one like a Marriott Residence Inn, which has a full kitchen (stove, oven, microwave, dishwasher) in each room. You can also ask the Marriott Residence Inn folks to go to the grocery ahead of time with a list and they will purchase items for you and have them in the room (the grocery purchases are added to your hotel bill). A few other hotels were willing to do this for me as well - I remember the Westin in Charlotte, NC fondly for this!

Feel free to look at my other posts on travelling with a baby. Enjoy the wedding! C.

I have flown crosscountry with my baby many times. The cheap bottles SUCK! Stick with what works the best at home. Expect him to eat less while traveling and then catch up later that night or next day. I always packed a few bottles and then washed them when i got to the hotel or grandparents. Yes i even packed the bottle brush and a little thing of dish soap. Throw it in a big plastic bag so ensure no leakage.

As for formula, they make little to go packages. Or you can put some formula in disposable formula bags at Target by first years. The bottle rips off for easy dispensing. 50 for $5. Easy to use. I would bring a small container adn ask for some hot water to heat bottles when it was cold outside.
ALso, pack extra clothes for him and the rest of you. Wearing spit up on a plane intestifies the smell.

At both walmart or Target you can find disposable changing pads.

ps strollers are great for carrying everything without feeling like a pack mule and you can take it to the gate along with infant carrier seat, just buy the covers for them at walmart or target. IF snow or dirt gets in the mechanism it can damage them.
