I would avoid the apartments or homes on data drive. Before my husband and i were familiar with the area we looked over there and after research found that it is an unsafe area--many car break ins, house break ins, etc.... I would try to find a place in Folsom--a bit of a commute but very worth it.

J.,
First off I want to say...welcome to Sacramento County. Mather Fields is near the community that I live in. Mather fields is located near Rancho Cordova, Ca. Please take a look at Anatolia (which is where we live now). Also, if you need any help I am a loan officer that can assist you in your financing and assist you in looking for a home also. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you and hope to speak with you soon.

Hi J.,
Sorry, I am unfamiliar with German/English preschools in Sacramento. However, I have been responsible for finding new national RE investments for my family for about the last seven or so years, and had to make the relocation quest myself not too long ago. The easiest tools we use for finding real estate that we are unfamiliar with are Google earth and what ever local real estate company will give me complete access to the local MLS. In this area I would use Kraft real estate. You could look up houses in your price range and then view the surrounding area with Google Earth or MSN maps beta with birds eye view. The only draw back is that some of the pics are years old and areas that appear undeveloped may indeed be mega shopping centers. If your hubby will be working at Mather (A year ago, I consulted for a company located there) I would take in to account the commute. You should know that the immediate area and especially anything SOUTH should be avoided. It has horrible crime rates. Folsom and everything to the East is nice CLEAN and very new. As a matter of fact the majority of the city less than ten years old. It also has a great historical area that is wonderful for shopping and has a nice community feel especially during Christmas. They even have a summertime street fair every Thursday with venders and jumpy jumpies, ice cream and people meandering around, it truly is a great way to rap up the day. Orangevale is a nice country area; Roseville is nice and new with the only real mall, Granite bay, Loomis & Penryn are nicer but a little far from Mather. Natomas is also very new but a bit of a commute from Mather. It also has one of the highest foreclosure rates in all of the Sacramento Area, meaning that lack of demand is driving their prices way down. If you are buying this may be advantageous. If you are looking to rent an apartment there are several newer ones located just East of Mather as well as some cute plexes and town homes downtown you may want to keep in mind the neighborhoods gross divergence in safety. Welcome to Sac and Happy Hunting!!!

I think it would be great if you live in Mather. The name of the developemt right behind mather field is called Indepence at Mather. You can buy a house there for a very reasonable price right now, you can also rent there. It's like living in the sub-urbs right in the middle of the country. It's very clean and safe. Please do not live in Anatolia, it smells very badly there. I have friends that puchased homes there because it's so affordable, they sued the developers to get therir money back because it smells so badly. My friends purchased homes and now live in Mather. I suggest capitol christian shcool, located off of bradshaw & highway 50.

Hi J.! There are several brand new communities near Mather, the city is called Rancho Cordova. Anatolia (new housing area) is only a couple of years old, and I know several new families who live there. However, you still have to drive a bit to get to any stores, as the neighborhood stores have not been built yet. YOu might also like to look at the 'village' on Data/International Drive. I cannot remember the name of it, but it was designed as a small community, wallking distance to some stores, some that are already open. If you're looking more for apartments, there are several apartment complexes right around the corner from Mather, also on Data Drive (I believe Mather also has housing on the base)

As for pre-schools I won't be able to help much, as my step-kid's schools are decided entirely by their monthers... But Mather Field is actually in the Rancho Cordova area, if that helps any...

Sounds like you are doing great with your daughter. Have you considered going with more of a play group rather than preschool...or a co-op preschool group....something along the lines of a homeschool group for preschoolers?

near Mather you have Capitol Christian Center. You are
closer to Rancho Cordova then Sacramento area. I live in
the Rosemont area which is between Mather and Sac. it's not
too bad. Private school would be the way to go. Und ich
sprecken ein bichen Deutch. I think that is how it is spelled. Where in Germany are you.

I live in downtown Sacramento, and work right next to the base. I would not recommend anything in the Rancho Cordova area. I would say Folsom, my nephew who is age 2 attends Children's World in Folsom. I help quit a bit with my nephew so I have had first hand experience with the preschool. This is because my brother in law, who is also is in the Army, is currently serving in Taji ,Iraq. My sister lives in Folsom and has really enjoyed that facility for some time. The hours are very flexible 6:00 am to 6:30 pm. We look forward to having you as a part of our community.

My daughter goes to a great home preschool very close to Mather Field. It's a home run day care, it's very structured and has daily circle time, reading, outdoor activities (weather permitting). My daughter has learned so much and is so happy to present me with projects that she's made during her day-she's been with Smart Start for over 2 years now, and we travel across Sacramento now that she's moved to Rancho Cordova. For me, there's just no substitute for better preschooling. Victoria has her own website, www.smartstartchildcare.org. Hope this helps!!

Giggles n Wiggles Kindergarten Preparatory ###-###-####

An excellent school - teaches in small groups, your child will be very prepared to kinder after graduating from this program. Most children will be reading w/ UNDERSTANDING by 41/2. I was the owner for 20 years; and have sold the school to Priscilla Dolar who puts the same dedicated energy to the children.

There are many children of teachers and doctors whom attend this program...

Good Luck

Hi J.- I'm not sure if you are interested in Rudolf Steiner (Waldorf) schools, but the Sacramento Waldorf School has an early childhood program and offers German as a subject throughout the grades. I'm sure they have a website. Good luck in your move!- Ruth

Hi J....
I live in the Sacramento area. We live about 20-30 minutes south of Mather. I really love it where we live but there are lots of nice communities around here. There is a new area going up just southeast of Mather and it looks really nice. Mostly all new homes, where fields use to be. I am not sure what that area is called, but I can try to find out. Also there is an area just east of Mather called Orangevale or Folsom and it is very close to Mather. Lots of new growing areas with many young families. I think you will like this area of California. It gets down to 30 and 40 degrees but not usually snow. Lots in the foothills that are less then 2 hours away. Summers can be pretty hot but not unbearable. We have lots of lakes and rivers that are close by. Nice summer breezes in the evening. I think you can check it out on the internet. You can email me back if you have questions.

My name is Maggie

Folsom is a nice, family friendly area nearby. Phoenix Schools have good preschool programs.

Hi!
We live in Regency Park (Elkhorn blvd/Bridgecross) and there is a brand new elementary school within our subdivision. There are several preschools around us and Mather isn't far at all. Be careful, there are lots of foreclosures in our area (all of Sac, really), but our subdivision is really nice and is only 4 years old. It's a nice area without much crime and we feel safe for a big city.

J. - I know Folsom is a great community that is very family-friendly and safe. I have friends who live there and we visit all the time.
Rancho Cordova is a town that is attempting to rebuild itself. There is a lot of industry there, but no one was actually living there. SO the town has been putting a lot of effort into building neighborhoods, parks, stores etc. It still has a ways to go, so I am not sure of how good the schools are yet.
I would look at Gold River, which is next to Rancho Cordova. It is a bit more upscale with nice neighborhoods.
I would also look at Carmichael. It has a variety of neighborhoods and price-points. I think you can get a good value for your money there and it is close to a lot of things.
