Hi moms,
Does anyone know of a good place to adopt a puppy in the northwest suburbs? To be honest I am looking for someplace that is a little more lienent on thier prospectivce adopters. I've heard bad stories from friends, who are wonderful pet parents, but were denied for reasons that would have no bearing on how they would love and take care of thier new addition. One example was a friend has an indoor cat and was denied because he did not take his cat to the vet every year for checkups. (cat does have all it's shots ect..and id healthy and loved)
I don't want to get a puppy from a store, I would prefer a shelter. Any ideas would be great. (and for those of you on this board that know me, you know who you are, let it go. I finaly almost gave in. Still working on hubby)
Thanks everyone for your responses. I did look at all the websites suggested and of coruse fell in love with a dog from each one. I'm on board for a doggy/puppy now I just need to get my Hubby on the same board! Men, they are always the voice of reason!

We found our dog from a shelter on petfinder.com. It is a
great website. It features all the shelters within your area
and further, lists animals by age, breed, etc. It will give
you a very good idea of all the different shelters/rescue
societies in the area.
We adopted one of our dogs from Save A Pet in Round Lake off of Fairfield Road. The fees are reasonable and the staff were very easy to work with.
Where ever you may adopt your pet from: Caution! You will fall in love with all of them! We already had 2 Siberian Husky's and we just went in to "see" the animals. Next thing you know there was this older Husky laying down with his eyes just beaming at us. We now have 3 Husky's. :)
Good luck in your search. A shelter dog would love to find his/her forever home.

Kay's Animal Shelter in Arlington Heights. We got our dog there 7 years ago. He did end up being bigger than they estimated, but we love him. I think their only requirement was to get him a checkup (they had a coupon for one at a specific office) and have him fixed (another coupon). If we were ready for another pet, I'd definitely go there again.
I was going to let you know about petfinder.com also. I work with a rescue group and am a foster home for rescued dogs. The option of having the dogs in someones home is great. We get a wonderful idea of the dog's personality and temperment. I have young children and dogs and all the foster dogs are checked to see how they do with everyone. Lord knows they get alot of training and house manners by just living with us. If you can find a reputable group that will give you truthful information I think it is the best way to adopt a dog. We are an all breed rescue. I actually have a golden-doodle (golden retreiver mixed with poodle) right now. You never know what kind of dog you will find as a rescue. Each rescue group has specific qualifications so you have to check with them. We will adopt to families with children if the dog is the right fit. Our main goal is to find a loving home for each dog. Please email me if I can help you with anything else for your adoption process.
how about save a pet in Greyslake??
Check out http://www.petfinder.com/
Most shelters list their available animals here.
They will give the name and location of the shelters, etc.
If you know what breed you looking for there are breed specific rescue groups you can google.
I hope you find what you are looking for. Thank you for looking to adopt. Hugs.
