Good Hardwood Floor Mop

Hi Mama's..
Just wanted to see if anyone could recommend a good hardwood floor mop. We had to cancel our bi-weekly cleaning company, so now I'm on my own to clean the floors weekly and we have tons of hardwood floors to clean. I would rather not have to get on my hands and knees every week and I see a few electric (atleast I think they're electric) mops that are safe for hardwood floors, but not sure which one is the best.

Thanks for any input :)
M.

Hi M.,
My name is T. and I am also a mom of boy/girl twins. They are 6 years old tho. I to have hard wood floors and the mopping would take a toll on my back. So I tried the Swiffer Wet Jet and love it. It is so easy and gets the floors clean, and shining like they should. They used to have a coupon online for $5.00 off too. I hope that this helps you out..

Hi M.,
I recently purchased "The Shark" and, while it does an okay job cleaning the floor, it is total pain in the butt to use. The cord is too short and once the pad gets really wet it is hard to push across the floor. I liked the idea of it because it is a steam cleaner and does not use any chemicals but I am pretty disappointed. It seems really flimsy for the high price tag.

I like my old fashioned mop - the one like my mom used with a removable yellow head and a lever you pull up and it squishes the mop head together to wring it out. I have bought several "fancy" mops from Target and what-not, but the old stand-by truly works the best. No streaks, no fuss.

Good luck!
T.

Hi M.,

We use the Method O-Mop. It works with one product for wood floors and another product for tile, etc., floors. It's available at Target or online (methodhome.com). The one down-side is that the wood floor cleaning stuff is kinda strong smelling (but it's all non-toxic). The rags velcro on and are machine washable. It's kinda like a more ergonomic swiffer. It leaves the wood floors looking very shiny!

Hi M.!

I use the Bona system. It's non toxic and does the BEST job on my hardwood floors. You can get it at FCA which is on Route 59 in south plainfield, and I've also found it at Ace hardware. It's a micro material mop that just gets thrown in the washer. They're great!!

When we had our hardwood floors done, we were told not to use a steam mop or bucket & water. It isn't the best thing for the wood. We were given a panel mop (It has a large flat head with a removable terry-cloth head) and a concentrated hardwood floor cleaner. I put a couple of drops of the cleaner in a spray bottle and fill the rest with water. I then spray a section at a time and wipe with the mop. With the exception of my kitchen, foyer & bathrooms, my whole house is hardwood. I have several cloth heads and replace them as they get dirty. When I'm done, I toss them all in the washing meachine. Around the edges/corners I do use a fibercloth rag. If you vaccuum regularly and don't wear your shoes in the house, you only have to clean the floors about once a month or every other month. For kitchen & bath hardwood, it should get done about every-other week. In between cleaning, just grab the spray bottle and spot clean. The panel mop & cleaner is from Fabian's flooring in Mokena, but you can get a similar fiber-cloth head version from Target & Home Depot.

Good luck!

I use a libman mop - has a cover so you don't have to touch the water - and murphy's oil soap in my water. I vacuum every other day to keep dirt off the floor.

I have all hardwood floors also. I bought a Bissel Flip It. First, it is a dry vacuum to suck up the dirt. Next, you flip it around and it is a wet floor cleaner. I love it because I no longer use a broom and dust pan or my swiffer. It also sucks up all the dirt in the cracks. Try it, It is very inexpensive considering what it does!

Hi,
I use the Shark steam mop. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!
I purchased it at Kohl's with my extra 30% off coupon when it was on sale. You can also find it at Target etc. (I opted for buying at a store VS. on line, as it could have easily returned it if it was a piece of junk... that was 1.5 years ago;-)
I have also seen it at costco, and that comes with like 5 extra pads. (great deal need those extra pads!)
They are washable, it really cleans the floor very well, and it is a chemical free cleaner! You just add water.
I also use it on my tile floors in the bathrooms and linoleum in the laundry room:)
Works great on all surfaces!
Highly recommend it!

I have the shark steam mop and I love it. I do my kitchen, hallway, foyer, bathroom, upstairs hallway and both upstair bathrooms in less than an hour with the Shark. It's great.

1.) Don't use tap water. It has minerals in it that will little spots....use distilled water. A one gallon jug will last you a long time.

2.) Don't dry the pads that come with it in the dryer...just let them air dry. I dried my first one in the dryer and I didn't use a dryer sheet like the directions said, but I think there was too much dryer sheet residue in there because the pad practically stuck to the floor the next time I used it. Just air dry them.

All of those areas I mentioned are hardwood, Muskoka maple floors except the upstairs baths...which are linoleum.

I have to do my floors sometimes twice a week because I havce kids running around all the time. Shoes, no shoes, socks, bare feet...it doesn't matter the floors show everything in a few days.

I use a wet jet swiffer and am very happy with it. I have only additionally gotten down and scrubbed with vinegar and water in my kitchen twice this year; use the swiffer the rest of the time.
