I would suggest a miracle blanket for swaddling if she doesn't already have one!
I'm looking for a gift for a friend who just had a baby girl last week. She has a three year old son, and lives in a very small apartment in NYC so I don't want to buy anything too bulky. I'm wondering if anyone has any good ideas for time saving gifts or gifts that would help her manage two children while exhausted.

Hi V.,
A newborn can always use some diapers. I dont think a mother can get enough diapers. Puzzles for the 3yr old. Puzzles are very inexpensive and you can get more than one. You can find them a at Toys R Us or even the dollar store.
A gift certificate to Target (she can use it online) or a local grocery store that will deliver to her are what I have done for my NYC friends. If she doesn't have time to talk on the phone, sending her cards are another good idea. Helps her still feel like she has a connection to the "outside" world and she can read them when she has a free minute.
What about some nice, comfy jammies? Something she can wear easily and breastfeed in (if she is doing so). I've always thought that would be nice. Everyone loves new pjs!
