Good Day Cares

Hi!

Does anyone have suggestions for good day care? My son is 13 months old and will be going into daycare with effect from about July. We are going to be living in the Tech Terrace area, but location isn't really a problem. I have put him on the waiting list for the child development place at TTU but there are 50 other children waiting ahead of him (! 12 places for a school with 20,000 students!)

Any help would be MUCH appreciated
H.

Hi all... I would suggest a Parents Day Out (PDO) program as well. I have three kids and I have them all in a program. I am also the three yr. old teacher where they go to school. Some programs are only Tue & Thur but there are some Mon, Tue, Wed, Fri programs as well. The thing that I LOVE about PDO is that in some programs they actually do a lesson plan so that your kids are learning and not just being fed and changed. I would just check around and call lots of churches and dig for info. I really think it the way to go over a daycare setting. Good luck! Blessed, S.

My 15 month old daughter just started daycare two weeks ago at First Baptist Child Development Center. So far I'm pleased. They have a good reputation and inspection record (available at the state website ( http://www.dfps.state.tx.us/Child_Care/Search_Texas_Child... ).

I am also on the TTU waiting list. They are building a new facility that will double their capacity. It is due to open for the Fall semester. They told me, however, to make other plans for now.

I had talked to some other moms about Miss Robins, but when I visited, their security was lacking and the rooms are quite small.

Hope this helps. :)

I've heard good things about Kid's Kingdom but have not used them myself.

I am in the same situation. Tried 2 daycares, and after some bad experiences gave up. Hired a sitter who spends 4 hrs a day with my baby a day - I also get lots of help from my husband. And she is quite expensive (8 $ an hour). I am a faculty member at TTU and could not get in the TTU Daycare. Nor do we have any hope for the Fall 2006. All in all, it is hard to get great care / qualified care in Lubbock.

Hi H.!

Do you need daycare for everyday of the week? The reason I'm asking is because I have used regular daycares before, and have now started to use "mother's-day-out" programs instead and have found them to be much better and much more affordable. But most programs operate 2-3 days a week only. They are smaller in numbers so your child gets more one-on-one time. And they are Christian based. (don't know if that is something you look for)The ones that I recommend are at Broadway Church of Christ which operates on Tuesday-Thursday, 9:00-3:00; and First Christian Church which operates on Monday-Wednesday-Friday from 9:00-2:30, this one also offers early drop off and late pick up if you need it.

Let me know if you have any questions!

God Bless,
A. Covarrubias
