Going on Vacation

We are going on vacation in early May to visit family and I'm concerned about my son's nap time. At home he usually sleeps in his swing usually at nap time and co-sleeps with me at night. He's fine not sleeping in his swing at nap time, that's not the problem. The problem is while we are gone I don't know where he will nap. He moves around a lot in his sleep so I'm not comfortable just putting him in a bed or on the couch or anything like that. So, I'm on the hunt for something that doesn't take up a lot of space, that's cheap, because we will probably never use it again, some along those lines that he can use for naps while we're gone. Any suggestions are greatly appriciated! Thank you!

My family invested in a playpen for our visits. They went to a consignment shop and picked one up. My sister borrowed a exersaucer from a friend for us, so maybe your family could ask around or look for some gently used Items they could buy or borrow for your stay.

Have fun with your Family.

R.,

Have you considered just laying him on the floor in and out of the way corner with a few blankets under him for padding? We did that with my daughter when we went camping last summer. Another option is to make a "wall" of pillows around him on the bed so he can't roll off. I'd try the blanket nest first. I was always scared that he'd still fall off even with the pillows.

Hope this helps,
Melissa

i don't know how big your little one is, but we have used deep dresser doors with his sheep skin inside at grandparents house when our ds was about 6 months. i don't know, your son may be able to crawl or climb out of that at this age! There's always the pac-n-play. not cheap and not little but it works!

I got something called a Peapod for my baby shower, it looks like a little tent and folds up very, very small. The original one is pretty small and you won't get too much more use out of it if your boy is 8 months old, but I am pretty sure they make a bigger version now.
We use ours for travel, outings and in our backyard.
However, if it's just a one time thing I agree with the poster that suggested putting him on a comfy mat or blankets on the floor in a safe room (or within sight).

Have fun!

Check out www.onestepahead.com. They have some great travel stuff that packs away super small! All kinds of stuff I didn't even think of for travelling, but it makes a world of difference too (esp. on my wallet...LOL!).

I would invest in a Pack-n-Play. It's like a portable crib. They are lightweight and just awesome. It is Garage Sale season too. I would look on Craigslist too. They can be pretty spendy - $80+ and more. I got mine for $10 at a garage sale. Or if you have a friend who has one, you could ask if you can borrow it for your trip. Good luck.

I'd go with a pac n' play. That might be your best bet. See if you can borrow one from a friend, or find a decent one from a resale shop. Good Luck and have a great vacation!!
