Hi M.,
I also live overseas and do quite a bit of travel. I felt like a pretty accomplished traveler with 3 international trips under my belt with my infant daughter but was a little nervous about traveling without the aid of the infant seat. She has long since outgrown her baby seat and has moved up to the big clunky toddler seat. On our last trip I thought for a moment about checking the seat and then traveling with her in my lap. That might work for you... I knew it wasn't an option for me. My daughter is really quite a handful. Plus, I just knew we would both be more comfortable if she could be secure in her seat. :)
I actually learned about the gogo travelmate right before my last flight with my daughter (then 18 months). The problem was that I literally was flying out the next morning so really it was a little late in the game to go shopping. I was desperate for ideas... how was I going to carry my daugher, her car seat and a carry on through the airport and onto the plane?? That's when I noticed the picture at the bottom of the page. I had been looking at the gogo kids travelmate on amazon.... if you look at that link you'll see another product at the bottom of the page.
(or.... go to....

Of course I still didn't have time to order one but I was able to "make" my own using one of the LATCH belts already on the car seat and my shoulder strap from my carry on duffle bag. Does that make sense?? If you look at the pictures of the traveling toddler car seat adaptor you can probably see that it is literally a belt they're selling. I don't know how the person in the picture was able to push the suitcase with their toddler and the car seat?? My suitcase handle is not that rugged.... I pulled my daughter strapped in her carseat, secured to my luggage right behind me. I was even able to pull her right down the isle of the plane right to our seat. It was awesome!!!
I literally took a belt I had already (the shoulder strap from my carry on) and looped it through the back of the car seat. I used that belt to wrap around my suitcase. (I made sure the belt was really tight and that it went through the handle on the suitcase.) Then I used the top LATCH belt from my daughters car seat to further secure the seat to the suitcase. (I ran the belt under the top handle and attached it to the first belt.)
If this sounds a little abstract, try a test run. It really is pretty easy. I wasn't sure if I would be able to pull the whole thing together while standing in the security line, people behind me.... fumbling with my shoes, keys, etc. I did a test run in my living room before hand to make sure I could do it. I practiced loading and unloding my daughter. (Think Luigi from the movie "Cars." :D) I had it down to a science after just a few minutes.
In the end I saved $80 :)
I didn't have another single purpose gadget taking up my closet space :)
Plus felt a little like MacGyver.... taking the tools I already had on had and saving the day!
FYI.... the only down side was the TSA checkpoint. Of course had to seperate my daughter, the car seat and the carry on to go through the appropriate scanners but the rest of the trip was a breeze. Plus I had already practiced at home so it was pretty fast.
Good luck with your trip!
Hope this was helpful :)
