Go to the Lake or Clean My Basement?

Decisions, decisions.
My husband and I had a kid free weekend planned for the lake. But, on top of his already 60+ hour work week, he took on another job for 30 days that will require him to work ALL of his waking hours.
Long story, but in the 30 days he will be taking this job, he will make enough to pay off a construction loan for one of our investment properties. So, its kind of a given to take it.
No lake for us. :( Life could be harder right? I know. But anyways, my sister has a girls weekend planned with her friends and she told me to go with them. I know all of her friends and like them, but I feel kinda weird just tagging along. I know it would be fun, but still, its her friends. Plus it wouldnt be the glorious weekend I had planned with my lovely man.
On the other hand, my parents are still willing to babysit, and I feel like the hurrendous basement is calling my name. It is SO horrible, and I have wanted to get rid of stuff and have a garage sale for years! Just havent really had the time to get down there and clean it. I really want to get rid of stuff and make a play area for the kids down there. And plus, with the stuff I have down there to get rid of, its probably a goldmine. AND the annual neighborhood garage sale is next month.
It wont be difficult physically to do by myself, but It will be hard to decide by myself what of my husbands should stay or go (evil chuckle).
Make this decision for me! I am so torn!!

What can I do next?

I hate going when I don't really know people well but if the only other option is cleaning the basement I would go to the lake!

If these are your options... LAKE wins! The basement will be there when you get back.

BASEMENT!!! You will feel so good when its done and it will be so worth it when you have some extra $ from all the junk you sell. =) I need to do this myself and whenever the feeling of downsizing/cleaning strikes me, I MUST jump on it before it goes away! Good luck!

I would say Basement. Get your parents to watch the kids while you do it, you will feel better once all the junk is gone, or at least organized and then you can be prepared for the sale next month. Then your kids have a play area and that makes them happy too.

Basement makes the most sense, and is most productive. Hopefully you can plan a different time to hit the lake with your man soon.

Lake, for sure. Listen, I love cleaning and organizing as much as the next OCD person, but I bet ya a hundred bucks you get down there cleaning up and then feel sad about not being at the lake. Summer is not too much longer. Go have some fun and make some memories. Make some new friends (all my best friends were friends-of-friends). Cleaning the basement can be put off till the next weekend or you can do an hour a day over the next few weeks. Put all your hubby's stuff in a pile and tell him he has until such and such date to go through it or it all will be chucked/sold. Go have fun at the lake!!!

You can clean the basement in bad weather or when you're feeling down. You can only go to the lake when it's nice. You'll regret it, promise.

LAKE.

I wouldn't pass up a weekend at the lake if I were invited. (Can I go for you?) It might turn out to be just what you need, and some of your sister's friends might become yours - and, if all else fails, you can just take pictures of the lake.

You might ask your parents if they will invite their grandchildren another weekend for you to do a Basement Extravaganza. In the meantime, you can ask your husband to sort through his things before you do.

That's my take on it. BUT... if the thought of a weekend with your sister's crowd makes you sigh, and the thought of the basement makes you excited, you'd better choose the basement.

Do the basement with the kids gone. You can graze on leftovers and stay up all hours of the night working. No one to come in a mess up the piles or starting with wanting to keep this or that. I'd ignore hubby and basically stay in the basement the whole time. Think of what all you can accomplish if you get it done on Saturday and still have Sunday for more projects.....
