Gluten Free Skin Products

I am wondering if anyone knows specifically of any skin care products, such as soaps, facial cleanser, moisturizers, shampoos, makeup, etc. that are all natural and most importantly gluten free. I found out the end of January that I have an egg and gluten intolerance and have had to change my diet to a completely gluten- and egg- free diet. Since changing my diet, I have felt much better, but my skin on my face seems to be almost getting worse- and that is with regular washing twice a day (morning and night). I use all Mary Kay products on my face and have for 9 years, but it seems like lately since I have changed my diet, my skin seems to be getting worse, and I am wondering if those products might contain some gluten derivatives. In my research about gluten sensitivities and Celiac disease, I have found that some skin and hair products do contain gluten, I just don't know which ones. I also use Dove soap and Curel moisturizer. I have always had sensitive skin. Anyway, if you have any suggestions for all natural products that are gluten free, I would love to hear them. Thanks!

Before taking anyone's advice here (since no one who has yet replied has any 1st hand experience with neeing to be gluten-free), I really recommend that you search for and join gluten free support groups/forums online and then ASK THERE. Only other people who are in your shoes (trying to live a gluten-free diet) would be able to accurately direct you towards gluten-free skincare. If you are sensitive to gluten in your diet, you can very easily also react to gluten on your skin, so you are quite astute to be searching for gluten free skincare.

Searching in Yahoo Groups using the keyword "gluten" you already get a good list of groups, and I see several good groups listed in just the 1st two pages, such as SillyYaks, livingwheatandglutenfree, and celiacsupport:
http://groups.yahoo.com/search?query=gluten

Best of luck!

I am not for sure if these products are gluten free, but my mother in law also has a gluten intolerance and she uses these products. i know they are hypoallergenic and if you go to their website you should be able to find out by emailing them. I use these products myself and love them! The company is called Arbonne and their web address is www.arbonne.com.

Hi A.,
You are dealing with some challenging health issues and I wish you luck in your quest to find acceptable products. There is a web site from the Envirnomental Working Group that will allow you to search products and brands to see if the company uses ingredients that are potentially dangerous to our health. It is: http://www.cosmeticdatabase.com/
They note "cancer, reproductive/developmental toxicity, violations, restrictions and warnings, allergies, immunotoxicity and other concerns" This is a third-party source that does not endorse or recommend any products.
The brand I have used for years and finally decided to distribute is Shaklee. When you type them into this database, "O" issues are shown, whereas Mary Kay has "79".
If you want to look at Shaklee's personal care products, here is a link: http://www.shaklee.net/changinglives/product/PersonalCare. Most people who are gluten sensitive are not affected by topically applied gluten-containing products but you could be an exception.
It would be important to get your immune system built up as much as possible to help your body better tolerate ingredients that are causing your body distress. Allergies are often a sign of a weakened immune system; I know because I and others in my family dealt with it.
Again, best of luck in your quest for health.

a really good place to check out is Raison Rack on Schrock rd in westerville. They just opened a huge new store (where the old Big Bear used to be) so they are now carrying more products, including skin, face, and hair items.

I am not 100% sure if they are gluten free or not but I would check out this website www.cosmeticcop.com the products are very well formulated and if you email their customer service they should be able to answer any questions you have about what is in the products.
