Hi Ladies-

I am the Brownie leader for my daughter's troop. The girls are in third grade and get along very nicely. The girls have been together since kindergarten. One of the girls in the troop will be moving soon. We will all miss her because we have really gotten close and she is a very kind girl.

She has one more Girl Scout meeting with us before she and her family move to Texas. So... besides having a little celebration that will include a "good-bye cake", what else do you think would be nice to do for her? I am going to make her a photo collage. Her teacher already has the students making her a memory book where they all contribute a page. Maybe... we could make girl scout troop t-shirt for each girl where everyone signs each shirt. (These would come in handy when we go on field trips and end of the year parties.) I would actually like everyone to make something since time is running out and this would have to be done during the next meeting. We've made friendship pins, friendship photo frames and bracelets already. Do you have anymore friendship type keepsakes ideas that I could incorporate into the next meeting? We have to wrap up another sewing activity and eat cake, so the friendship craft can only take around 30 to 40 minutes.

Thanks in advance for any ideas, ladies!! I really appreciate it!

J.

Buy a nice hooded white sweatshirt and let everyone sign it with a permanent marker at the celebration. That way, the girl leaving can "wear" her friends with her for a long time.
I did this for my daughter and she's 24 now. She still has the sweatshirt.
You can still do the t-shirts so the other girls have her signature too, but I was just thinking of logistics.
How about starting " friendship journals"....notebooks even from the dollar store.
Write each girl's name on one.
Pass them around and let the other girls write their names, addresses, birthdays, phone numbers, messages, put stickers, draw pictures, etc. Then, each girl gets hers to take home at the end of the meeting.
That way, they all have a little momento and perhaps can stay in touch with each other outside of the meetings. It's kind of the same thing as a memory book idea, but the whole troop can share as a friendship project.
Also, you can buy plain pre-post paid post cards. Let each girl write her name and address on it, decorate it and give it to the girl leaving so she can write a note to her friends once she gets settled in her new home and town.
Pen pal projects are great for kids. Keeping in touch through the mail is becoming a lost art. I always encourage it.
I hope you get some great ideas!
I was a Brownie leader and absolutely loved it. It's so much fun!

That is nice to plan something for the girl who is leaving your troop. When are the girls moving up to Juniors? How about having all of the girls decorate a picture frame and taking a group photo of the group & leader as it now stands now. Or you could get an autograph mat and let all the girls sign in and add the photo?
