Hello,
My 2 1/2 year old son attends an in home daycare and receives excellent care. I was wondering what to get for the providers. The owner of the daycare appears to be well off, however her assistant, who I think takes on most of the work, does not. Any suggestions for Christmas gifts for them would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all so much for your advice. I decided on a Dove gift basket + a $15.00 gift certificate to Starbucks for my Childcare provider and a $25.00 Visa gift card for her assistant. I also gave them photo Christmas cards of my son along with a handwritten note about how much I appreciate all that they do! Thanks again for your help!!

Simple gifts with very heart felt cards are always my favorite to receive. Candles, gift cards, gift certificates (a massage or manicure/pedicure), potted plants... things that they can enjoy and last for a while. Again I think that a well written card with any gift makes the chosen gift just that much more special. Happy Holidays!

As a preschool teacher I always enjoy getting gift cards to various places. Find out their favorite places to eat, shop, etc. to make it more personal, include a note of all the things you appreciate about them-we don't often hear that enough.

i agree with jennifer s. gift cards are great! and a special note to each of then is always nice. i know i love to get gift cards to random places - stater bros (where i grocery shop), places to eat (sit down dinners not fast food), sears, target and anything like that. you can even make each of then a small gift basket with gift cards, candies anything you think they would like. good luck!

When my girls were young (and before I had kids) I was a preschool teacher and my favorite gift was a hand made sweatshirt. I have since made some for my kids teachers. Buy an inexpensive sweatshirt at a craft store or Wal-Mart and get fabric markers. I just make a few stick figure kids on it and wrote "I Touch The Future" and you can put her name on if you chose or to get ideas look at some of the shirts at a Teacher supply store. I have also let the kids make shirts for grandmas and pas, for daddy they are so cute my husband uses his for a pj top it has skateboards and flames with hearts all over it and I love to see my hubby in it. It makes me smile and the kids love it too.

Hi S.,

I am a home daycare provider and I always mention no gifts. For the most part no one listens :o) I ask that instead of gifts please donate. Every year I pick an organization. Last year I did a local group that helps protect woman and children who have escaped from abusive husbands. The year before I put out a box for toys for kids at City of Hope BMT unit. The year before that we did a Pug dog rescue. Maybe this year you can suggest this your provider. As for the assistant if you want still get her something little. A Visa gift card is the best.
