bionicles are great for puzzle types. there's a new-ish game out that my son got for his 6th birthday that he loves called traffic jam (I think he got the jr. version) and he also LOVES chess. Finally, there are 2 great books that he's gotten that he adores "Pirateology" and a Spider Man incredible pop up book. In fact, there are a ton of very cool pop ups out there, on dinosaurs, sharks and castles...all topics 6 year old boys adore.
1 word... TRANSFORMERS
Air Hoggs rockets. You place them on a base and pump it up. When you release it, the rocket shoot about 50 feet in the air (no batteries either.) Definitely an outdoor toy, but my son and his friends love it. They have them at Wal-Mart for about $15.
My 6 1/2 year old loves his Webkinz which is a a stuffed toy. My suggestion is look up online at webkinz.com to see where you can buy them. Call to see if they are in stock, and buy them for about $10-$15. My son has a bull frog and a bull dog and they each came with a code that you enter on the website and then you play with them online. You earn Webkinz money by playing a variety of games, or Quizzy's where you answer questions. If your fiends have Webkinz you can send them letters or virtual items for their stuffed animals too. They create homes for their pets and have to feed them and keep them happy and healthy.
My son is a real early bird so it is something I feel he can wake up at 6:00 in the morning and do independently for a half hour or so without a thought in my mind that he will be into something that will make me uncomfortable. He has NEVER gotten into ANY other site from that one. They have NO pop ups, although we have a pop up blocker, but they do NOT have links to other websites from their site. If you click on ANYTHING once you are in their site it will direct you to somewhere in their site. I can't recommend it enough.
