hi ladies,
i want to have a gift basket of goodies put together for a family that will be traveling for a weekend trip. their children are ages 4, 2, and 8 months. they are coming in town next weekend and we are hoping to have lunch or dinner with them when they are here. we came to know each other as i found the mom as a great support (via online) when our daughter was diagnosed with a rare form of epilepsy. their oldest daughter was also diagnosed with it as an infant. i want the basket to be of fun and useful things for them to have, but maybe a keepsake as well since the mom has been so helpful and supportive through the toughest times of our life.
any ideas?
thanks :)
hi everyone!
thanks for all of the wonderful ideas. so far i have gotten some good snacks (trail mix, goldfish, soft choc chip cookies, raisins, fruit snacks, and juice boxes). still working on finding a good book for mom, and ive got adorable bendable fabric flowers ($1 bins at target) and just need to find a toy for the baby boy. looks like we are not able to coordinate our schedules to got to lunch or dinner, so we just give them a gift card that they can use for another time.
thanks for the KC idea too! so sorry that i forgot to mention they have family nearby, but i still may look up the stuff for kids and give it to them for the next time they are here..give them more options.
thanks again!

Someone mentioned a guide to KC. Check out "A Kids Guide to Kansas City". It's a great resource. Also, there are great travel activity packs you can buy. Klutz publishes some great ones that I'm sure you could find at Barnes or another bookstore. Check Half Price Books too, they have tons of coloring books that aren't touched for super cheap. Travel games, small toys for the kids, and snacks as others have said are all good. I like the idea of a book for the mom too. Keep it small and simple so they don't have too much to carry with them. Very nice thought!
Great ideas so far, my contribution is to possibly find a small book about friendship and support and write a note inside it. That would be a great keepsake for an otherwise very practical basket. Another book idea would be to find a guide to Kansas City/Things to do in Kansas City, maybe they would want to come back after reading it!
The Dollar Tree has lots of small games, coloring books, crayons for the kids. Personally, I would find a cute plastic tub with a lid to keep everything contained while they travel.
You are so thoughtful to do this - hope it comes together for you!
thats such a sweet idea!! and props to you for being so considerate of your friend and her family... you could put like trail mix or that chex mix stuff you make in a trash bag and put in little baggies, nutrigrain bars gold fish , a gift card for a restaruant that s on their way, some doodle pads or coloring books for the kiddos, some fruit that doesnt need refridgeration, wet naps, sanitizer.. there is soooo much you can do good luck to you!
They might also be able to use some wipes (always needed while traveling) and extra plastic bags. I think this is a great idea. Have fun!
