My husband and I (along with our 2 children) are getting ready to move back to his home state. My question is this......Do I need to call and get my children's medical records from the Doctor or should I let my next pedia call and get them faxed over??
TIA Mommas

What can I do next?

Hi C.... I would call your peds office and see what they recommend. We had to fill out some paper work prior to our last dr's office releasing our sons medical records. Better to do it here then have to have them mail them to you where ever you are moving too.

Either or. If it's not too much of a hassle I'd recommend getting them , but it not necessary. You can always wait till you move. It's not a very big deal. Either way your good.

It may sound extreme, but I would do both. I have moved quite a few times and have found that it is much simpler, just in case you have a medical issue during the move, and also if one or both of your kids gets sick soon after your move it is better because you can take your copy in with you in the event that they have not had adequate time to request and receive records, some places will take as long as a week to respond to a request- even from another pedi office.

Let your new Ped call them. That way, you don't have to worry about keeping the records safe to pass on to the new doctor or accidentally packed away. :)

Just be sure to grab a business card from your current one in your wallet to give to the new one.

some pedi's will charge you to copy your records if you take them yourself (mine wanted $25), but not if you request them as a transfer from the new pedi.
but, of course, whether you hand carry also depends on whether your children have extensive medical history (I hope not). also, another note - if you are moving due to orleaving the military - ALWAYS - hand carry your medical records.
Hope this helps!

i always keep a copy of myself, just in case of an emergency.... you never know what might happen... just keep it in a safe place and easy acess... that way you can get it to your new pedia.... obtainin records can be a long wait sometimes.... easier if you have them... and they can call and confirm them....
