This might sound strange, but you know how people who trying to get pregnant and then adopt will get pregnant spontaneously after adopting the baby? Maybe spend a lot of time around nanies, someone you know has a baby who you can spend time with or something. Get those maternal juices/hormones flowing. And STOP worrying. The more you worry that something won't happen, it will actually prevent this happening. A self fulfilling prophecy. You must have a relaxed state of mind, no worry, no doubt, no anxiety, just total faith that you believe 100 percent that you WILL get pregnant. This is more condusive to you actually getting pregnant. Did you see the movie or read the book, The Secret? If not, get it, it changed my life. good luck!

Regulating sugar levels in the blood has been linked to successful pregnancies in women with your condition. Often, doctors will prescribe an oral insulin like glucophage while a couple is trying to conceive. In addition to a well balanced diet and exercise, you may want to try a low glycemic index diet to keep the blood sugar at an even keel and it may help your conception issues. A supplement to try would be "Maca", which is actually an ancient peruvian root vegetable that has been shown to help the body regulate it's own hormone production and levels. It doesn't add any hormones into the mix, and it's just a vegetable. But, it's used for sex drive, fertility, menopause, and even to lower blood pressure and cholesterol. The best form that it comes in is in a tincture which you can mostly find in natural pharmacies or healthfood stores and it's usually labeled "pharma maca". You can research it yourself, there's plenty of info out there.

Hi T.,
I did not have POS but I did have my daughter after years of infertility at the age of 41.
I used intravenous and injectable vitamins and nutrients and natural hormone therapy with a Naturopathic Doctor.
www.drwald.com These natural therapies were the key! and cured a lot of my hormonal problems (fibroid/fibercystic breasts gone) and other problems. I did use IVF but it was because my husband was infertile and would not follow my ND's protocall.
Good Luck and God bless,

I have heard that people have gotten great results by taking wheat germ oil. Remember that any supplement you take requires aminimum of 6-8 weeks before it really affects your system. I would also make sure all your nutritional needs are being met by consulting a nutritionist.

took me a while to get preggie (daughter is now 2). 2 paths you can try:
aijalee.com
she is an herbalist, MD and acupuncturist. best thing was when i visited her office (38th st midtown), she touched my write-for pulse-and told me things about my lifestyle to change....eating habits...etc.
she is totally with it. she gave me an herbal drink for 1 week and all worked out.
also for peace of mind, i had a phone consult with mona lisa schulz...see her website under that name. she is amazing. it may sound hokey to soem of you, but i was desperate and had many blood tests, ivf specialists and lost of doctors tell me nothing was srong yet i couldnt carry a baby to twerm and had many unexplained miscarriages...until i spoke with these 2 professionals! so how could i not recommend them whole heartedly!!
i am now preggie with a boy due in september. YAY!!!

HI T.,
I too have PCOS and had a hard time getting pregnant. I read the book TAking Charge of you Fertility; however, charting did not work for me as my cycles were completely irregular and therefore my temperatures did not follow any consistent pattern. I also tried Metformin and that did not help me get pregnant either. I did notice; however, that my cycles did seem to get a bit more regular in conjunction with even a minimal weight loss. I tried clomid as well with no success.
I finally ended up going to a fertility specialist. Worked like a charm. I got pregnant during the first cycle and am now the proud mother of a 17 month old girl.
I do think getting to the fertility specialist is a process of the mind. When you are ready to go that route I think you will find that it is not as bad as you would have imagined.
In the meantime, you could try acupuncture, flax seed oil, weight loss (my doctor had recommended south beach). I would just be careful with the herbs. Make sure they are safe to have in your system in case pregnancy does occur.
Good luck and stay positive. It will happen!!

I have pcos, and an 18-month old son, so all hope is not lost! I went to a reproductive endocrinologist, who put me on metformin. I too will be looking to go the natural route as far as remedies (not on anything currently), but when I need to go on something (I'm still nursing!) to get pregnant, I think I'll stick with the metformin because it's quick and I know it works. Once I am finished having kids, I will search for a more natural "cure."
Log onto soulcysters.net--it's a great place for support and ideas. There is a natural remedy mentioned there that I plan to try at some point--it's some sort of cinnamon combo developed by a dr. in Houston--apparently it works, but takes longer than going the metformin route (which is why i'll use metformin when I need to ovulate for baby-making purposes!)
My RE is in Reading (was in Philly). He is so awesome, that I continued to see him even when i lived in Texas. Best doctor I've ever had in my life, and I don't typically even like doctors!

Hi T.-
I too suffer from PSOS. I tried cutting sugar out of my diet entirely since PSOS is caused by an overabundance of insulin. Usually the only way to regulate this problem is by taking Metformin, which is similar to the medication diabetics take. Maybe you should consider seeing an infertility specialist for a consultation. He/She will be able to guide you in your decision making as far as medication is concerned.
Hope this helps-

Accupunture is a good idea. I too had a difficult time becoming pregnant and decided to try it. Happily, I am now the proud mom of a darling baby girl. I have no idea how much of a roll accupunture played in my success but I'd do it again. It certainly can't hurt. Until it happens, try to be positive. You're only 25 so you have plenty of time.

Hi T.,
I 'diddo' Anna A.'s advice. I'd also recommend Acupuncture - though be sure you go to one who is not just certified, but trained for several years in Chinese & US Medicine. Too many "doctors" can practice, but are not properly trained (why there are many "warnings" out ther). Check out a qualified Acupuncturist at the American Academy of Medicine web site: http://www.medicalacupuncture.org/. I, too, had a terrible time getting pregnant. Then acupuncture stimulated my ovulation. We also used a fertility specialist, but not much happened until I also saw the Acupuncturist (these worked well together).
Good luck!

I have PCOS and have found metformin to be an amazing drug, although it is not "natural" but it is very safe. It was originally developed for people with Type II Diabetes, but more recently has been found to be very helpful for people with PCOS. I have 4 children - the first 3 from fertility drugs and the last one from metformin! After years of irregular periods, I am now getting my period on a regular basis, thanks to metformin. I wasn't ovulating or getting my period regularly because of too-high levels of insulin that my body was producing (common among PCOS sufferers). Metformin works by lowering the levels of insulin. I was on it for just over a year when I got pregnant with my fourth child, by surprise! Plus a nice "side-effect" is weight loss, since this can also be a problem area for those with PCOS. I'd recommend making an appointment with a Reproductive Endocrinologist...this type of doctor can work with you to manage your PCOS. Good luck!

Hi T.,
I understand you need for children. I have been with my husband since I was 16. Got engaged to him at 25, married him and 27 and thought I could wait to have children because I was totally healthy and regular!! I started trying for a baby at 30 and 2 years later, I still had no success. I found out that I have endometriosis. I had lots of damage from it. The Doctors felt that I could still get pregnant after they "cleaned it up", but I tried everything.. My husband is a Chiropractor, so I had regular treatments, had acupuncture and took lots of Vitamins, Green tea, read books to adjust my diet. No luck.... I know you want to try naturally, and I do believe that it helps prepare your body, but sometimes, science and technology can help it along faster. I went to an IVF clinic that my fertility Dr recommended and I am happy to say that I am 23 weeks pregnant with a baby!!! This may not be an option for you, but I am a true believer in IVF. The doctors can only do so much, you still have to wait the 2 weeks to see if God is going to bless you with the embryos taking. I believe that good health helped me get pregnant with IVF. It was a combination. If you are located in the Long Island area, I can recommend the doctors that I use.
You are very young, so you dont have to go this way but you may want to to work with a fertility dr that can help you along.
Good luck to you and you WILL get pregnant soon.

Hi, T. --
I don't have POS but was 39 when I got pregnant. One thing you might look into is an ovulation monitor. You can buy them at most pharmacies. They cost $100+ plus the the cost of the test sticks. I had good luck using one as have other women I know. It's simple, noninvasive and relatively inexpensive. I also used fertility vitamins available over the counter. I have no idea if they helped, but getting as healthy as you can is only a plus. Be sure to ask your doctor about any supplements, though, especially if you are on other medication.
Good luck! You're young and time is on your side! :-) L.

Hi T.
You've gotten a lot of great posts already. You don't say what you've tried so far, so hopefully these are not all things you've been doing already.
If you haven't done so already, please have your husband checked out also, afterall you will be going through family planning and then family raising together for a long time to come.
Definitely pay attention to your cervical mucous - I use that to help me predict if I'll get a period during a given month, and it definitely indicates your most fertile time period. I know people who have used weird tricks to try to enhance this, you'd have to search the internet - it involved taking a specific type of cough medicine (not a "natural" alternative, but there may be an herbal remedy equivalent - BUT, don't assume it's safe just because it's herbal, check into it first)
Take your prenatal vitamins while you are trying to conceive!!! I really think they helped kickstart my body as much as anything else.
And, lastly, don't rule out science, we wouldn't be here today without it.
Best wishes,
A.

The good news is that PCOS is the least severe of all fertility issues and the most easily treated. Most doctors will start you on clomid pills, if that doesn't work -- injections, and if that doesn't work then IVF. Before you start treatments of any kind, you should get your husband tested to make sure he doesn't have any fertility issues. 40% of infertile couples are infertile due to men (I was told this by my doctor from NYU Fertility) so don't assume you are the only one with the problem).
If you want to go the natural route, try accupuncure. You will need to find someone very good but it will be very pricey. It usually runs $80 per hours compare to Clomid pills which are $10 per cycle.
I, too, have PCOS, and would be willing to discuss this with you in person. I used most "Western" and "Eastern" medicine to get pregnant and I am now a proud mother of a 2 month old.

Hi T. ~ I also have PCOS, no idea until we started trying to have children. 2 years of trying ourselves and no baby, I can certainly understand what you are going through. I also read the "Taking Charge of Your Fertility," it's a great book.
We found out we were pregnant the day before we had an appointment with a fertility expert and 2 months after reading the book - using good old fashioned trying!
I also have a friend w/PCOS and she opted to go the hormone route and has had 2 successful pregnancies!
Keep trying! It took us a little over 2 years for our son, and we are trying again!

Hi T.,
It took me for the first child 10 years not trying but not preventing. The second one I use Clearblue ovulating sticks that come with I believe 30 sticks. In three months I was pregnant I and happy to say my baby Boy just turned 1 years old on the 10th. First things when you wake up due a test you will see it get darker and darker the closer you are to ovulating. I do not have a normal cycle myself so be patient and it will work. I read that when ready do not over due it. Once daily should due it best time when the stick starts to get dark start trying. every other day. And when its really dark in the morning and at nite. Once its lite again stop. Let your body and your mind rest. Don't tell him much about it because it distracts them and puts a lot of presure. Keep it very simple. Good Luck let me know how it turns out I did a lot of research if you have any questions I am more then happy to help.
Good Luck! M. :)

HI T.. As I write this, my 2 year old is on my lap and my 8 month old is in his exersaucer. Anyway, I too have PCOS. Don't waste money on expensive fertility monitors, b/c people with PCOS don't ovulate. I went to a reproductive endocrinologist. For my first son, I was put on metformin, then clomid and had an IUI (artificial insemination). For my second son, I was not trying to get pregnant. MY OB put me on metformin to try to regulate my period and SURPRISE...I got pregnant.
So what you really need to try to do is get a "normal" period so you know you're ovulating. I bought the cheaper pee on a stick ovulation detector. I think it was $15. So go to a reproductive endocrinologist and check out your options.
If you have anymore questions, let me know.
Good luck!!!

I believe a low carb diet can be helpful, I have read many articles that point to its success. I became a mom again at age 43, not trying but not preventing either. It was after I had been on low carb diet for about 6 months and lost 60+ pounds. I also remember that when I became pregnant with my daughter at age 20, I had lost considerable weight prior to that pregnancy.
Look into limiting carbohydrates, I am sure there are many sources on the web.

You could try Arbonne's Prolief. (As always, check with your doctor before using anything. This is a topical product though.) It is a hormone balancing cream that has helped many women regulate their cycles and have even aided in a handful of people I have personally seen testimonials of get pregnant. One was a friend of mine who tried for years and she now has two children about a year and a half apart.
I have PCOS too and i was able to conceive with the help of science. it is not as bad as you think. people with PCOS are the easiest to treat for fertility problems. i had to take an injection of a drug for about 12 days and then another drug once to "release" my eggs and then my husband and i had intercourse. however, you could try exercise and dropping some weight, i know usually the problems get exacerbated when you carry excess weight. i have tried the over the counter vitamin mixes with no luck. you could also try a accupuncturist that specializes in fertility issues. good luck!

Like I said I have several medical issues and needed the extra help. I did one cycle of acu-puncture and it worked. I wish you lots of luck and hope you are able to achieve your dream. Feel free to e-mail if you want any more info. Good luck
There's a book out there writted by Marilyn Shannon called "Fertility, nutrition and Cycles". Or something like that. It has a special section on PCOS. Also, I'm not sure what you know about Natural family planning. I practice NFP through the Couple to Couple league and am in the process of becoming a teacher along with my husband. When you chart your cycles and get to know the natural rythem of your body, you'll know when you do and do not ovulate. So, you'll start knowing when you DO ovulate and can try to get pregnant during those times. You can look up info on their website. I wish you all the luck.

you might want to check to check out Clear Passage Therapies, though it is a bit of a trip down to Florida, Iowa or California. I used to be one of their therapists in Manhattan but they closed that office. Cranio Sacral therapy and Visceral manipulation might be of some help, too. Check online for therapists who practise those in their treatments.
