Getting off Birth Control

I was wondering what the reasoning is behind some people saying you should wait several months to start trying for a baby after you've been on birth control? Would it be bad for the baby if you got pregnant the month after you stopped taking birth control?

What can I do next?

There is absoultly no reason you should wait, according to my doctor. They have said in the past to wait 90 days but that is because for some people it takes a while for their cycles to get back to normal and you may become pregnant and not realize it because your cycles are not quite regualr yet, Its really up to you, but it will not effect the baby at all if you were to become pregnant right after getting off the pill. I have a friend that got pregnant a month after getting off of the pill with both her pregnancies, and her doctor said it was fine to do that and you are actually very fertile right after getting off the pill.

I got pregnant after only being off the pill for 2 weeks. I have a healthy 8 month old now! And my pregnancy was totally normal and problem free.

I've also heard that some people wait after getting off the pill to get their cycles on a schedule. But, when you think about it, some people get pregnant while ON birth control, and have healthy babies!

A friend of mine (nurse practitioner) said the only reason they tell you that is your lining MAY not be thick enough the first couple of months off the pill. So what this means is that if you do get pregnant your chances of having a miscarriage are a bit higher (but not by much). Obviously, this all depends on the woman. She said other than that there is absolutely no reason to wait. My doctor says don't wait because the increased risk of m/c is VERY small.

I don't think it would be bad... My SIL got pg about 2 weeks after taking off the Patch. There's another mamasource mom with 4 kids and I think she got pg with almost all her kids while ON BC. Another friend of mine got pg while taking the Pill.

It normally takes a few months (or several) for your body to regulate after getting off BC, so it's not safe to assume you can get pg right after going off BC, but it definitely happens...
