My son is 13 months old and still wants his bottle when he is really tired. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get him to go down with out it and stay asleep?

What can I do next?

This might not help you, but with my daughter I just realized one day that she hadn't had a bottle yet (just cups) and so I didn't give her one the rest of the day...then the next day...and so on. All of a sudden she had been off the bottle for 3 weeks by her 1st birthday. (It's the pacifier I think that is going to get me though!)

kids need something for security, it this case the bottle is, sometime a favourite teddy bear or blanket might work.

With my son I gradually took it away with night being the last one to go. Now with my daughter I just took it away at 12mos and she was fine. My son had it till about 13mos then I reduced it to JUST night till 19mos and we just took it awya and he actually had no issues.

I a a licensed massage therapist. I have found that a little back rub for my daughter at night is the key to her sleeping through the night.

Hello J.,

My suggestion would be to change what you put in the bottle if you haven't already tried that. Often, kids like the sucking action more than the actual content of the bottle. If you put milk or juice in it, start diluting it a little at a time and putting less liquid in it. Eventually, you will have more water than the other liquid and he likely won't want the bottle anymore because he is not getting anything tasty. This worked for both of my kids. Good luck!
