Getting a Birth Certificate......

Well my daughter starts school this year and I do NOT have her birth certificate. I feel terrible saying that. I just never went to get it. I have only needed my kids social security card if I ever needed anything. So since they accepted that as identification I had no need for the certificate. Now I need it to enroll her in school. She was born in Dallas. Does anyone know who I call or what I do to go about getting it? Can I have it mailed to me? I live so far now.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well I eventually just went down and got it myself. Thanks for the help everyone. :)

I'm sure that if you look up Vital statistics, Dallas County, Tx from Yahoo, it will take you to the link. I'm sure they are able to mail it with a credit card number, it may take a wk or two.

I think you can order them over the internet. I would just do a search on Texas Birth Certificates.

As with any government office, I wouldn't wait on the mailing services. Since you need it for school, I would go to the office in person to get it! A certified copy should be enough.

I just went through the same thing a few weeks ago and I ordered my children's birth certificates on-line through the Texas Department of State Health Services at www.texasonline.state.tx.us/ I did not choose to have them express mailed and it took about 3 weeks to get them, but I was ordering more than one - I don't know if that makes a difference.

In Plano, at Park and 75 there is a Vital Statistics office where you can pick up a certified copy birth certificates. You will need your I.D. to prove relationship. The person whose BC that you are picking up has to be born in Texas to pick it up there.

Hi, E.. When I needed my daughter's birth certificate for school 5 years ago I just went downtown to city hall, paid 50 cents for a parking meter and then paid a very small amount for the certificate. I only had to wait about 10 minutes. It was much faster than going through the postal service, and a lot easier than I thought it would be.

I had to get birth certificates for my kids recently and it was easy to do online. Go to http://www.dallascityhall.com/

About half way down on the left there is a link to “Request… Birth/Death Certificates” That will take you to the web site where you can order the birth certificate.

No need to request the overnight delivery (set as the default delivery method) as I used regular delivery and the birth certificates were delivered within 3 days of ordering. You will have to fill out a form and fax it back to them before they will order the record. It's worth it though because it is an effort to protect your privacy.

Good luck!
