Leave him alone- he's just not ready! Don't try to push him into it- it will only make it harder and take longer. For some reason, people think 3 is the magical number for potty- training, and if the child is not trained, they panic. He will let you know when he's ready.

Hi M.,

From what alot of people say, boys are slower at the potty training than girls. I personally think that it depends on when the child is ready, regardless of boy/girl. My daughter was doing #2 since her 2nd bday and it took her about another 6 months before she consistently went #1. We used the pull-ups to make her feel more like a big girl and giving her the stickers. But I think that they didn't really help. So we got an Elmo potty video. She watched that about 4 or 5 times and it started to click! She started to go #1 more consistently. I was also home with her for a week in between Christmas and New Year's so I would try to put her on the potty every hour or so. We told daycare when she went back after the new year about her progress. They worked with her by taking her every so often and she finally got the hang of it. Now she loves wearing her Dora and princess underwear :-)

Again, I think it depends on when the child is ready. For my daughter, it was like a switch finally went off in her head and they key was that she was able to tell US when she had to go #1...not us tell her. So she felt like she was in control ;-)

Hope this helps!

I agree with the other posts. Prior to my six week old's arrival, I taught preschool. Pushing will only make him more resistant and boys do seem to take a bit longer then girls to be ready. Don't give up on the potty talk either. Continue to mention when you or other family members are going to use the potty and remind him that he will also use the potty when he is ready and offer him the opportunity to use the potty when you think he may need to go. The best "advise" I have ever heard on the subject was - don't worry, he won't go to college in diapers and remember that three is the longest year! Good luck!

www.PottieStickers.com I invented these for my son because he refused to go and we had such a hectic lifestyle - here is a discounted page with specials also located here http://www.pottiestickers.com/tvpottiesticker.htm
the cd has the HOW TO with step by step instructions and loads of toilet training tips and facts for you also. In 5 years I have not had anyone come back and say it did not work and kids love them.

by 15 - 18 months a child can control their spinxter muscles and go potty. After that it is the terrible two's. By age 3 he is more than capable. The CD helps you go thru the stages to help him want to go potty. Spring is a great time to do it also.

Happy potty training - T.
