Santarus also makes a prescription to fight this,,,that many know nothing about.. and had helped some better than the Prevacid.
My 15 month old son has GERDS. I have done research on the foods he should be eating (bananas, pasta, bread, 2 % milk, rice, yogurt, applesauce, peaches, pears). now I need help on easy to make fast kid friendly recipes. If anyone has some ideas on recipes, snacks, or basic GERD info I would love to hear it. Just FYI, the head of his bed is elevated, no milk given prior to bed, takes Prevacid 1 time a day, other than this I don't know how else to help him.

I just bought a Magic Bullet and it is FABULOUS for making smoothies out of those things he should be eating. You can buy frozen fruits at the grocery and use them instead of ice (I never use ice in mine just frozen fruit) and peeled bannanas do very well in the freezer!
My basic recipe is:
1 frozen banana
4 frozen or fresh strawberries
3 TBSP vanilla yogurt
milk or juice to about 3/4 full
blend and enjoy
Best wishes!!
p.s. my 16 month old LOVES theses
Hi N...
One thing you might investigate is if your son may be either wheat (gluten) or dairy intolerant. There are many websites to obtain information about gluten intolerance. May be worth investigating. Good luck.

Both my kids -- 3 years and 16 months -- had/have reflux. We just pulled my 3 year old off Prevacid this year, in fact. I don't have much info. on foods, as my kids didn't really do a special diet for reflux, nor did our pediatrician recommend or encourage one. Mine seemed fine with the Prevacid, supplemented by Mylanta or Maalox during the times when reflux seemed to flare up, which was always tied to teething for us. In fact, the pediatrician recommended Mylanta before each meal and before bed for those times, and it really did seem to help. Not sure if this was information you were looking for, but I hope it does help a little bit. Do feel free to leave me a message if you would like to talk more about it!
My son had acid reflux and he was put on Zantac! It made a huge difference even on the first day. He took it twice a day until he got better! I would try it. See if your doctor will let your son take that instead.
I hope you have eliminated the possibility of food allergies. My experiences are that milk and/or egg allergies can be instigators of problems like this.
Check out www.infantrefluxdisease.com . It's a informative website with an awesome message board that's heavily used (so you don't wait days for a response like you do with some medical-related message boards).
My 3 1/2yo daughter has GERD, and the ladies on IRD have been invaluable to me.

my advice, after years of church nursery childcare, is to keep your child upright after feeding for 30 to 45 minutes. a swing works well, but your son may be too big for that. an excersaucer is a great idea too. this can greatly reduce problems.
