My daughter has an appointment to get some teeth capped and extracted and she has to do under general anesthesia. She is only 2 years old. Has anyone had anything negative happen to their children after being on anesthesia? or is it very safe?

What can I do next?

My daughter had absolutely no trouble with general anesthesia when she had 4 teeth extracted. I think it's more scary for us :-) She will be just fine

Sorry you got attacked so much by other Mom's on the rotten teeth question. They will not do it if it isn't safe. Please go ahead and do the surgery under anesthesia. There wont be any lasting effects, and your daughter wont know what happened.

If she isn't already and if it is appropriate for your kiddoes situation - I would definitely recommend a pediatric dentist. They are set up for kids, have cool smelling and tasting products, movies to watch and when my daughter had 2 caps (after a fall) they really made her and us feel at ease. We have a great regular dentist but for this procedure they recommended the ped. dentist and it was a great suggestion. Good luck.

Relax your mind. I have a 20 year old developmentally disabled autistic daughter who has had to go under general anesthesia twice a year for dental work (cleanings, cavities, crowns, etc) since she was 3 and we have NEVER had any problems. When she comes out of it, she is usually tired and sick to her stomach (vomiting a couple of times at most) but she is up and playing by the afternoon. Keep on hand lots of frozen treats and she will remember it like those of us who were born in the 70s remember having our tonsils out (lots of icecream :) Also, Motrin works great for the pain and lasts 6-8 hours so she can sleep comfortably all night.

She will be fine. My youngest had surgery when he was 6 months that needed general anesthesia. It was scary but he was fine.

My son had general anesthesia for dental work when he was about 3 1/2. He was fine, and we were very nervous! I do agree that you should make sure you have a pediatric dentist/anesthesiologist.

Also, our son was very cranky afterwards, so be prepared!

My BFF's daughter had to go under general when she was only about 3 months for a procedure at the hospital. She was just fine, a little groggy after, but completely fine.

My Son has been under anesthesia 7 times in his 2.5 years of living. Twice for over 6 hours and he is none worse for wear. But...there is always a but...some children might have an adverse reaction to it. The anesthesiologist will be monitoring her like a hawk and can answer any and all question about what he/she will do.

Good Luck!

My son was under when he got his tubes in his ears. He was also under anesthesia when he had his tonsils out. He came out okay, but I have to admit, I was more nervous about the anesthesia then the tonsil surgery.
