My daughter is 2 mos old and from day 1 she has been a gassy baby. I have noticed it more and more recently (because they have started to smell haha) but she seems to be rather fussy too and I think the too are related. I think the gas is making her fussy I am afraid she might be in some discomfort a lot of the time because of this gas issue. I gave her so Gas X last night by Mylicon and it really seemed to help. Now today she is super gassy again. She doesnt usually get fussy until about 6 and then until 10 when she falls asleep for the night. Last night with the Gas X though she wasnt fussy at all so I am pretty sure like I said the two are related. My suggested that it may something I am eating since I am nursing her but like I said this has been since day one and other than pretzels and water I dont eat too much of the same thing over and over so I do not think I am causing this, has anyone gone through this before and if so what did you do? Also do you think I should take her to her doctor?
Thanks
Aleisha

My daughter was gassy and colic! wow! I don't wish those days back... I would strongly reccommend dr browns bottles if you are using bottles. That was the secret for us! Her gas stopped and the colic went away! No more screaming from 5pm until 8pm! The other solution i heard of was gripe water. I never tried it because the bottles worked; however, my sister in law said it is wonderful.

My daughter had the same problem and I used gripe water for her. I would just mix it in her bottle twice a day. It worked like a charm. It can be bought at Walgreens.

Once our oldest hit two months, she really started getting gassy, and evenings were always worse.

We always used Mylicon. I know some people who believe that Gerber's gas drops work better on their children, so couldn't hurt to try some of the different brands to see if one works better than another. It also couldn't hurt to talk to her pediatrician about it just to be safe.

It could be what you're eating, but since most people I know with kids have had this happen around 2 months whether they breastfed or not, I'd say it just means your child is normal.

If you're using bottles at all to feed her (if you're pumping?), then that could contribute to the gassiness too. Make sure that if you are using bottles to put some mylicon in it, and use Dr. Brown's bottles.

Just a few thoughts....good luck!

My boy was the same and gas drops and tummy massage weren't working. I put him on babies magic tea and he got soothed instantly.

My daughter was terribly gassy. I worried about my diet too, but the doc said to just keep eating. We swore by Mylicon on the tough days. You can do a few other things too. Take her legs, bend her knees and push them gently but firmly into her belly. It won't hurt her and it will help to push some of the gas out. You can also try infant massage. There are lots of places that offer classes. Try burping her more often while she is nursing. I would burp my daughter about every 5 minutes. That seemed to help.

My oldest daughter was gassy all the time and screamed for months until a fellow co-op mom told me that milk protein goes through moms milk and is indigestible for most humans. It was hard being that I had been raised on a dairy farm and beleived that milk was absolutely necessary! But I was desparate to try anything--in just 3 days she was sleeping through the night for the first time (she was 15 months old!) and within a week what I thought were my seasonal allergies were completely gone, and my sister (whom we were living with) lost the bloated, pudgy extra weight that she was carrying around though she was technically not overweight. Really cows milk is the perfect food for calves but not people. Also some people even doctors may suggest that you stop nursing-but all formulas are based on cows milk or soy--which has its own set of problems. Dairy is in lots of products so you will need to read labels. Also wheat protein can be a problem(gluten) and that is in everything also.
Other than diet, try the baby massage on her, and I used to move my babies legs like a bicycle exercise which helped. Also nurse her as soon as she indicates she wants to--if you wait until she is crying and really hungry she may be swollowing air as she cries hard and nursing too fast. Another tip-- make sure you burp her frequently while feeding and after, and hold her upright for awhile against your chest before laying her down. i hope this helps!

What formula are you using? My twelve week old son was using Enfamil with Iron the yellow and white container and his pediatrician switched him to Enfamil Gentlease, it's purple and white container. After being on that for about a week we could tell a big difference. It's for fussy, gassy babies, we still had to use the Milicon but after about one week on the new formula we could definately tell.
