The serious buyers come Friday nights to beat the early risers(who are the other serious buyers) and are a great alternatives. Craigs List is also excellent advice.
Good luck.

Has anyone ever tried to have a garage sale in the evening...either during the week or on a Saturday?
We are desperately trying to reclaim the garage for our vehicles, but the thought of trying to get something set up for an early morning garage sale is too daunting. I feel like I would need the day of to set up tables outside and I need to have it when someone could watch our 10 month old. I've thought of donating the items, but are also in need of some extra cash : )

There are some people who show up at 5am no matter when you advertise. Have it totally set up in the garage ready before hand. Have a helper there with you and just move the tables out in the morning.
You could try an evening one and let us all know how it goes.
Hi J.,
I, too, find the idea of pre-dawn garage sales daunting. Have you considered listing things for sale on either craigslist (http://stlouis.craigslist.org/) or http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sellmystuff-stl/? I've sold things there pretty quickly, and it's free to list things (though you may have to register (free)). That way you can deal with them on your schedule too.
Hope this helps.
I was also going to suggest craigslist. I've had a lot of luck selling good condition toys and my daughter loves that i split the earnings with her!
However, be prepared for no-shows. And only accept cash. Good pictures and descriptions can move your stuff fast.
I have never seen a sale in the evening. Usually when we do a sale I spend a week gathering things that I want to sell, then the day or so before I start pricing, making signs, get tables together and have change. You could work at naptime or after your little man goes to bed. Have it all ready so in the morning all you have to do is pull out the tables. Be sure it's all clean, it makes a big difference. The early shoppers are the best buyers usually. Good Luck$$$$
You can have garage sale pre-sales on Friday nights. People do those all the time. Maybe that could just be all you do!
Evening Garage sales don't sound like they would work well because the public is not expecting it. I would recommend that you organize everything in your garage on tables as you move stuff around, a couple of days before and then the day of, you can move the big ticket items out onto the driveway. If you organize the garage sale stuff a little at a time, when the baby is sleeping or if you can get a sitter for an hour or something then it should come together in a few days. If the early morning thing is still hard then go ahead and open at 10am on a Sat and stay open until 4 or 5pm if you can. Just advertise appropriately.
Good luck.
Hi J.,
I think you can hold a garage sale at anytime. You will just have to promote it and put the time of day it would be held.
You can call it "Sundown Garage Sale" or something like that.
