Hi M.!
Check out www.birthdaypartyideas.com for TONS of ideas...for games, food, favors, decorations and more. It's a great site! Have fun!!
I am hosting a birthday party at my house for my soon to be 5 year old. I haven't done this for quite some time, (see the ages of my other kids), so I'm looking for some game ideas. The older boys are helping out, so I figured we could play hide and seek and I have a ring toss game and bozo buckets (if I can find it).
Any ideas are appreciated. It's a Star Wars party.
Thanks!
I went to the library and got some books and they had some great ideas. When the kids arrived, I had them color a Star Wars picture (from the internet) until everyone arrived. Then we had a treasure hunt (one of my older kids had a klutz treasure hunt book). I wrote down the name of each of the other games and put them in a bowl, including "free play".Someone picked free play first and the kids had a great time with all the stuff in the basement - trucks, cars, trains, blocks, etc. After awhile, they started getting restless and we played pass the asteroid (hot potato). We played Star Wars music and the kid who was out, then got to help with the music. After that I got out some glow sticks (dollar store) and we turned off the lights in the basement and ran around with them. Oh we also had a good time with balloons - knocking them around, letting the air out of them, etc.
So basically, I planned too much, and ended up winging it a lot, but that's ok.

we did a pirate party a few years ago. activites were decorate a treasure bag (good bag they filled up later) I got cute little paper bags with twine handles on them from hobby lobby 3 bags for like 99 cents. i put one at each place at the table and then put markers, crayones glitter (in retrospect that was a bad call I would skip the glitter) self sticking jewels etc and the kids decorated the bags. we played pin the jewel on the treasure chest (if you want the directions on how to make the map look like an old tresaure map let me know) we played stomp the canon ball. and we were having a scavanger hunt but it rained so that didn't pan out lol. At the end we had a pinata shaped like a pirate parrot. the parrot was really only for decoration but then since it rained and we had to skip some other stuff we went ahead and filled it and did it in the garage. at the fabric store I got a couple yards of black material with glow in the dark skull and cross bones and used it for bandana's for the kids and a couple yeards of red and white striped material for the table cloth. for lunch we had peg legs (chicken tenders) cross bones (fries) and grog (fruit punch) later we had a cake with pirate decorations on it. we had a cd goign with songs from peter pan and hook. loads of fun and didn't really spend much money. kicker is you need a big space in case it rains as the games were tight in the dining room.
My daughter loves this game where you tie curling ribbon to each child's ankle with a rather large balloon attached. Everyone runs around trying to step on everyone elses balloon and also keeping theirs from others. The last one with a balloon intact is the winner. She just loves it and she just turned six.
take the classics and put a star wars twist on them. Instead hot potato do hot light saber. Instead of musical chairs make it musical Xwing fighters. Instead of bozo buckets, throw star wars figures into something that is star wars-y. Pin the tail on the donkey now is pin the something on some star wars character.
Sorry, I have girls and I personally HATE star wars, lol. But you get the idea.
All you need is a ping pong ball and sand buckets. Very cheap at the Dollar Store. Musical chairs is fun. The kids will love loud music. You can get little door prize gifts at the dollar store also. Serve cupcakes and ice cream and let the kids top them with their favorite toppings.
a good game get a milk bottle or some thing with a big opening have the boys kneel on a chair backwards and try to drop pencils through the opening give them each 10 to work with . its tough but loads of fun.. here is a great one if you have an area you don't mind getting a little wet. take marbles and get 2 aluminum baking tins the med size ones fill one with cold water and marbles keep the other one dry have the boys sit in a chair and take thier socks off. they have to see who can transfer the most marbles with their toes from one to the next. use a timer this game is a blast and the boys will be talking about it for days . it's a hoot when their feet touch the cold water. have fun
For my kids 6th, we had a treasure hunt party. One of the games we played with balloons is something I had played when I was little. After putting a little helium in the balloon so it would not sit still too much, we filled it with air and a note with the name of a character or animal. I thought the kids would think it was lame. They had a ball! The idea is to pop the balloon and act out the name on the note. We put a little helium to make it a little harder but this is not necessary. The rule was they could not use anything but their bodies and no hands. You could put in names of Star Wars characters and make it a guessing game. It is hilarious to see how the kids act out characteristics at this young age.
Pass the parcel with star wars little toys in it are great. Statues again with themed prizes.
