First off all, Strep is always present in the vagina and primary care physicians will tell you to treat against vaginal strep when an ObGyn will know that this is silly. Just like yeast is always present in the air, skin, vagina, etc. It is the overgrowth of one or the other that causes vaginal "infections". I am not a nurse, but your symptoms do sound like a UTI. I would try to call the same doctor you saw at the emergency room and see if they can give you a better/longer prescription. Here is a link to trying to treat at home, but even they say if not better within 24 hours see a doctor. Link says to drink lots, water and pure cranberry juice (not coctail with sugar), take ibuprofin, hot shower, heating pad, etc. If you do not have a heating pad, fill a clean sock with rice and tie a knot in it, then microwave the rice-sock for about 1 to 2 minutes and it will stay hot for about half an hour. Rice smells a bit at first but smell will go away with time. Good luck.
