I went to the Hospital go get a copy of the urine culture i had done at the Emergency room in August 16, i really don't know how to read these tests but is says verified: STREPTOCOCCUS AGALACTIAE ( group B), it also says ALBUMIN negative, GLUCOSE negative, KETONES negative, BILE negative, BLOOD negative, NITRITE negative, UROBILINOGEN normal, UA LEUK EST trace a,
RBCs 1 a, WBCs 1a, BACTERIA occasional a, SQUAMOUS EPITHELIALS 2 a, MUCOUS OCCASIONAL a, so these are my results from that ER visit in which i had the urgency to urinate , low back pain, no burning or pain, they gave me the Cipro for 3 days and i felt better but then this past Friday i started getting this sharp pain down my urethra through vagina when i would urinate only, and then i started drinking lots of water with a lillte baking soda and by the next day the pain was gone but i still have the frequent urination, low back pain and a little discomfort near my pelvic area like a little bit of pressure but no burning, so because i have no insurance i called the Pharmacy and i asked the Pharmacist about this , i read him my results and he said that maybe my infection needed to be treated longer than 3 days, that it was probably not cured in those 3 days that i took the Cipro, and he also said that the bacteria they found in my urine is from the vagina, he said alot of things can cause it like stress, a change in diet so i don't know what to think or do anymore, this feeling having to urinate cause when i go i do urinate, its not like i urinate a little i actually urinate every time i go so please if there is any information or advice you can give me please let me know.. Thanks to all you!!!

First off all, Strep is always present in the vagina and primary care physicians will tell you to treat against vaginal strep when an ObGyn will know that this is silly. Just like yeast is always present in the air, skin, vagina, etc. It is the overgrowth of one or the other that causes vaginal "infections". I am not a nurse, but your symptoms do sound like a UTI. I would try to call the same doctor you saw at the emergency room and see if they can give you a better/longer prescription. Here is a link to trying to treat at home, but even they say if not better within 24 hours see a doctor. Link says to drink lots, water and pure cranberry juice (not coctail with sugar), take ibuprofin, hot shower, heating pad, etc. If you do not have a heating pad, fill a clean sock with rice and tie a knot in it, then microwave the rice-sock for about 1 to 2 minutes and it will stay hot for about half an hour. Rice smells a bit at first but smell will go away with time. Good luck.

Anytime I have gotten a UTI...I needed Cipro for 7-10days to cure it. 3 was never enough.
Also to help ease the pain take AZO pills.
If nitrates, ketones, blood are negative....you probably don't have a UTI though.
When my Dad passed away I began having frequent "UTI" and after rounds and rounds of antibiotics they just kept coming back. I saw a urologist who tested me for everything under the sun. Long story short---they concluded I have interstitial cystitis. Look it up online but basically I cut out acidic foods, caffeine, and tried stress relieving techniques. It was essentially all stress related...which is possible believe it or not. It sucks but eventually the pain went away.

Good luck. I hope you feel better.

You really need to go to a doctor and be evaluated, insurance or not. There are clinics you can go to. The ER is not an ideal place to go for primary care, their job is to get people in and out. From your lab results, I am not sure why they chose Cipro, or for that matter, any antibiotic. It doesn't seem to be a UTI. As mentioned, Group B strep is in your body naturally. Even if it was an overgrowth (I would need to know the numbers to know how much), they would normally treat with penicillin or ampicillin, not Cipro. 3 days is normally enough for a UTI, and Cipro is broad spectrum, so a longer course of therapy probably would not help. It sounds like you have something else going on. I am a pharmacist, so I am saying this from a professional point of view.

People on this site can be very helpful, but no one can diagnose. OTC treatments are great, but they can mask a bigger problem, and lead to a delayed diagnosis. Please see a doctor.

Anytime I feel anything unusual going on "down there" I start drinking cranberry juice like it's going out of style. You can get the cranberry juice that's low/reduced sugar or is mixed with other fruits, as long as you can read on the package that is has cranberry juice or concentrate in it. I would drink as much as possible, all day long. Gulp it, chug it, sip it. Whatever you have to do. I would buy it in the biggest container possible and try to drink at least a gallon of it. Then when the burning stops, keep drinking the juice for at least 2 more days. For me, if I started drinking it in the morning, by the evening the burning would be at least starting to reduce. Keep drinking til the burning is totally gone, then add 2 more days. It's good for your bladder, great for your kidneys and better for you than antibiotics. Best of luck to you and I hope you feel better asap!

There are over the counter and holistic remedies for UTI's. However, you really do need to watch them, especially re-occurring infections with low back pain, as this is a sign of kidney problems. Since your test results do not show signifigant traces of albumin, glucose, or ketones, it may have been just a UTI at that point, but given enough time to fester, it will only lead to bladder and kidney problems which can really make you miserable and endanger your vital organs.
Most important things to remember are to watch your caffeine intake, and processed foods (McDonalds, Burger King, etc) are the devil when it comes to kidney function. Good luck and defintly seek out MD help, do you have an Urgent Care or clinic near you to go to?

Absolutely all these ladies are right, C.. I had a UTI without knowing it...I'd never had one, didn't know what it felt like?!?! Just a constant feeling of needing to urinate, but no urine produced. Long story short, after maybe 6 or 7 days of this, I started to feel ill, fever-y. Next thing I knew, literally, it was 6 days later, and I was in ICU. (Ended up staying 3 more days!) It had spread to my kidneys, and I became septic. Luckily my husband was at home when I passed out...the emergency technicians said I had 106 temp, wrapped me in an ice blanket and rushed me to the hospital. I truly, truly feel that the docs in the hospital saved my life. PLEASE get it taken care of now, as I said, in my experience, it just creeps up on you, but look how serious it became. (and PS, we had no insurance either, so believe me, whatever it cost to take care of now cannot EVEN compare to what could happen...so that's the good news!)

You are more than likely at the point where you NEED a stronger antibiotic. You MUST get to a dr ASAP because if you let this sit in your system too long you could end up allowing it to spread to other areas of your body and become septic which will land you in the ICU. The next time you feel this coming on get to the drugstore and get some URISTAT right away. I take a cranberry extract pill and an acidophilus pill every day and it keeps them away but at this point HONEY PLEASE GO TO THE DR AND GET THEM TO HELP YOU BEFORE YOU END UP WITH SOMETHING WAY TOO SERIOUS.

If I were you, I'd go and get some of the Azo tablets. I use the yeast version of them periodically and they work wonders. I'd also start drinking a hearty portion of cranberry juice as well, as it's great for kidney and UT infections, along with water. No caffeine, no other juice. Take it easy on the sugar/carb intake for now. Stick with bright green leafies and bananas can be your best friend. Feel better soon!
