Fun in the Sun

Hello,

This is the first year that we have been without a pool. I grew up with a pool so my son(5) has always been able to go over to Nonie's everyday and swim. Then when we moved to Texas we lived in 2 different apartments for the last 2 years which had pools. And my daughter(18 mo) spent all last summer in the pool.

Last September we bought a house that has no pool. In fact it didn't have anything in the backyard. So a couple months ago we laid grass and put a huge covered patio and now we are working on laying brick for a fire pit in the winter above ground pool in the summer type of area. But that area isn't ready and it's hot. And my son is already asking what we are going to do about the pool?!

Today we bought one of those water sprayers that you can attach to the hose and run around in and I ordered a water table..
Any other suggestions on cool water backyard things? Other than a above ground pool and doesn't cost $400.

Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

We've had three different intex pools over the last several years. The largest one was the most expensive at around $200, but we got it on clearance in the winter. The last one we had was the smallest (8 or 10 feet, I think) and it was around $80 (on sale). They were nice for the first several weeks, but got pretty gross towards the end of summer. The filter isn't big enough and vacuums are usually more than the pool- chemicals and a strainer can only keep it so clean. For a temporary thing, one of the smaller intex pools would be great- and cheaper than a pool pass. Try Target or Walmart.

Have you looked into intex pools. They are not too expensive and well worth it. We have had intex for over 10 years :)

Super Soakers, those are a hit at my house. You could also buy a slip and slide or if you have a trampoline, we used to put a sprinkler underneath and jump and splash.

We've got a great public pool in our community. There's also the YMCA.

Maybe it's because your son is used to a pool, but we have never had one and still have plenty of fun outside in the summer. I usually get a little blow up pool and fill that with water, we put out a blanket and we have a little "under the bed" rubbermaid tote filled with sand as a sandbox. All are very cheap (under $10 each) and provide plenty of fun.
In addition we also start vegetable beds in the spring that we weed, water and harvest. If you don't have space for a garden bed, make a little container garden... very educational too.
It's freezing here... so I am a bit jealous... enjoy the sun.
