I think it all depends on where you live, what the soil is like, what the climate is like, etc. I have a close friend here in NC who planted a peach tree. Within 2 years she had to give fruit away because they couldn't keep up with how much it was putting out. We have other friends who have a cherry tree that doesn't do a thing. I honestly think it is just trial and error, and the climate you live in. Good luck!
I am interested in the same thing. I have done lots of research on the subject because I didn't want to wait either.
They said to tilt the tree over when you plant them. (I saw a picture of their field with hundreds of trees planted at 45 and 60 degrees. I don't know which worked best for them.) They suggest placing the tree at a 45 to 60 degree angle and the tree would fruit sooner. 90 degrees is straight up. I planted two trees at about a 45 degree angle (peach) and I got fruit the next year. I also watered them with miracle grow and made sure they never wanted for water or soil moisture. The fruit was medium the first year and large the second year. I know semi-dwarf and dwarf fruit trees fruit sooner than standard trees.
I don't know anything about bananas. They are too cheap in the stores and I grow what I can't get in the sores or what tastes much better when home grown. That's why I plant tomatoes, boysenberries and strawberries, but don't plant potatoes.
Good luck to you and yours.
When you find a way please let us know! My parent's have a cherry, pear, plum, and peach tree that they planted 5 year's ago and they barely get any fruit! I think the cherry tree has more then the others but it does take a VERY long time! Good Luck!
Are you certain that you have fruit bearing banana trees and not ornamentals? And some fruit trees require two trees to pollinate (although I don't think banana trees do). We had to gret two pear trees, so they would cross pollinate. It took about two and a half years to bear fruit. Our jujube tree had jujubes (also called Chinese dates, like a cross between an apple and a pear) the first year. I don't think there are any tricks of the trade to speed the process. I imagine it takes time for the plants to mature.
