Anyone ever do a fruit fundraiser (oranges/grapefruit)? Are there any companies you recommend/don't recommend? Any tips?

Harry & David has AMAZING quality products but their stuff is a fortune. I don't know how practical that would be for a fundraiser but their quality is second to none.

Nope, I've not had a school or organization do a fruit fundraiser...would I participate? most likely - depends upon the organization!

Harry & David does fruit and other stuff.

Contact your local grower - they might want to help!

Good luck!

I would include in the permission slip that fruit must be delivered within 3 days of pick up to the customer. My nieces would keep it a week or two at their house until Christmas break and it would spoil fast which angered people.

When I was in high school the school band always did a fruit fundraiser. It was huge; they made tons of money. But I heard they discontinued it about five years ago because the fundraiser simply didn't make money anymore. People can get great fresh fruit so much easier now than 20 years ago...

H&D does have terrific quality, but their prices are already so high i can only imagine what a fundraiser basket would cost.
i would contact a local grower, who would probably love the exposure, and commit to a very prompt delivery timetable. fresh fruit doesn't stay fresh long.

Ditto Marda.
Harry& David is great.
As a kid, I fondly remember my family getting their baskets and seeing my late Dad, getting those for family and friends and clients too.
It was always special receiving it.
They have a website.

Harry and David is an Oregon company. They ship all over. When I was a kid our family received fruit from them. Always good quality. So they've been doing business over 50 years and have a good reputation. I've seen them advertise money raising programs.

Blue freedom farms is great. It's a national fund raising company. They do both the fruit and the cheese and sausage. My son's school band/choir does a Disney trip every 4 years. We do the fruit sale and the cheese and sausage. We do the sale so that the fruit is delivered the day before the big Christmas concert. Parents put the stuff into orders and the kids have to take it home with them for delivery that day. Not sure how your school is doing this sale but I refused to participate unless each kid got the credit for what they sold. None of the we will divide it over the whole group. You always have families who won't do the selling. And others who work their butts of. Blue freedom farms gives you a program for the computer with spread sheets to keep it really easy. We had several kids who sold enough to pay off their whole trip cost. Good luck.

The only problem I would have is that I, personally, prefer to pick out my own fruit. I am very picky about the quality, and would not feel comfortable buying when I can't see the actual product. I would only participate minimally, or donate directly.

My daughters schools have done them. The second the form comes home it goes immediately in the garbage. I don't even look at it. Two reasons... I'd rather pick out my own fruit at my local supermarket and I don't want to be assigned a specific time to pick up and deliver perishable items.
