I have defrosted two packages of hot dog buns. Only one got eaten. Can I refreeze the other one or should I just throw it out?
Has this every happened to anyone else? Do you just simply throw them out or do you make something else with them?

So What Happened?

I ended up throwing them out because they were thawed for 3 days. However thank you for the wonderful ideas of what to do next time:)

I have made garlic bread with them and they were fine. It also would depend how long they have been sitting out. If it is more than a day or two, I toss them in the trash.

we use hot dog buns for mini sub sandwiches.
I would probably not refreeze them.

I always throw them back in the freezer. If they aren't right when I take them back out, I throw them in the trash and go get new ones. You could always make pizza boats with them and broil them. Same with hamburger buns. The kids love them.

I've refrozen mine before. I think it's just meat that you couldn't refreeze.

They will keep in the fridge for weeks.
Just wrap in foil and pop in the oven to refresh.

I have never had good luck with freezing bread. It always seems really dry when I thaw it out so I'm thinking refreezing the buns would make them as hard as bricks. Just me. You could try it or just throw them out to the birds.

Throw them out to the birds. If you refreeze, they will taste terrible.

Yeast-based breads will change texture (somewhat dry, crumbly) after a first freeze, so I can imagine that they would be worse (not to mention potential bacteria/mold growth) after a second freeze.

You can re-freeze bread--it's just unsafe to re-freeze meats.

never a good idea to refreeze anything. Bacteria can grow during the thaw and remain in the newly frozen food.

Next time, try pulling out just what you need and popping them in the oven to thaw and heat.
