Hi mama's. Found a small whole chicken in the back of my reserve freezer. It's dated a year ago. Still good or toss it? Thank you!

Still good. I boil whole chickens and make chicken and dumplings. Your chicken should still be good for that.
If it's dried out I would toss it because the flavor isn't as good. Dried out looks white and dry. You can still cook it. It is still safe but the flavor won't be there.
ONLY a year ago. That's pretty fresh for chicken that has been kept frozen in a modern freezer. If it has any freezer burn, cut it off. Other then that cook it and enjoy. Use it for fried chicken or anything else that you desire.
Good luck to you and yours.
It is perfectly safe to eat - the issue would be more of taste but it may be just fine. I would put it in some boiling water w/onions,celery and carrots and make a good broth that can be used for soups and then take the chicken and make chicken salad or chicken tacos or put it in a casserole such as chicken divan. Best of luck to you, M.. M.
While the textbooks may say go for it......I wouldn't chance it for the $6 it cost a year ago. Err on the side of caution. Toss it and potentially save yourself a lot of pain and a doctor's visit.
