Check the safety features on both. There have been a lot of disturbing news stories about children dying in front loaders, so make sure whichever model you select has the necessary release features so kids can get out quickly and safely. We opted for top loaders to avoid the safety concerns altogether.

We loved our kenmore top loader. We now have a Frigidaire and don't like it nearly as much. It smells if you close the door, even with nothing in it. I don't think you can go wrong with Kenmore or Whirlpool, they are both good brands.

I just bought the front-load Samsung VRT steam washer. LOVE IT! (We bought a floor model and got half off the price.)

We had a Kenmore front-load previously and it was ok, but sounded a lot like a jet plane taking off when it hit the spin cycle. It vibrated so much that its internal parts took a lot of wear and tear; it died at about 8 years old, which was not as long as I'd have hoped. The Samsung is almost silent (I can talk on the phone standing in front of it while it is on the fastest spin cycle... it's wonderful!). Also I have not had to use any bleach in my wash, as the steam cycle sanitizes the laundry. Love, love, love it.

I second the LG -- we have an older pair, with the Steamwash. I love them. When these die I will get another pair. They have an exceptional reputation for being low repair issues, the tubs are HUGE (which means less loads of laundry!), mine has a tub clean cycle to address the smell you sometimes get in front loaders. 3+ years, 3 kids and 2 adults.. I've not had a single issue.

We got a deal with free finacing from Homedepot and an extra 10% off using a Home depot card. They were a little more costly then some but I have never regretted it.

As a side - My Mom has owned both the Kenmore and Maytag front loaders, she's had serious issues with both. I know Kenmore contracts different people to make their items, so the maker may have changed since her purchase.

I don't know anything about the Kenmore other than it's a good brand in general. My SIL has the Whirlpool Duet and has had it serviced about four times. She does like its performance, tho. We went with the LG and love it.

we also went with an LG front load and LOVE it. (we actually re-washed ALL hubbies shirts because they were so much softer and cleaner. LOL)

our neighbors bought a kenmore and aren't happy with it. Once they washed a folded handkerchief and when the wash wash was done, it was still folded!

Two tips that work for us (probably on any front load: keep the size of the load about 1/2 of the washer barrel. The clothes need room to tumble. Don't stuff it full. Also, ALL small and mighty laundry detergent works the best for us in getting out odors & the cleaning is great too.

p.s. as far as laundry, if you have those grease stains that don't come out, Rit Dye has a Stain Remover that really works. The bottle lasts me for years because I just spot treat.

they are the same thing, whirlpool used to make the kenmore brand and as far as the newer ones go they are made by LG. LG is a much better brand with better standards. we just got the LG washer dryer pair with true balance and i love them. worth every penny. but if you buy from sears be careful they are pretty evil sometimes. Whirlpool used to be an excellent brand but the cut corners now and they totally ruined maytag. i think at this point Electrolux, Samsung and LG are the only popular brands that Whirlpool doesn't own. and it was just released that they have been lying about the energy star ratings on some of the more expensive washer and dryers like the steam ones. i know it wasn't one of your choice but i vote for LG

I swear by Kenmore products. We have had our washer and dryer for 15 years and without any problems at all. I intend to buy the front loaders as soon as 1 of these kick the bucket. Lol. I keep waiting but they keep on chugging. And I will buy the Kenmore front loaders. I don't know about other Kenmore appliances, but I do know about washers and dryers. The set before these were also Kenmore and also lasted as long, longer actually, although I don't remember exactly how old they were, it was darn close to 20 years old! Buy Kenmore!

At the time we bought our Kenmore front loaders, Kenmore rated the highest with consumer reports. I agree with the other poster who said we almost always turn to Kenmore products for the value and reliability.
