So my 2 year is trying to climb out of his crib, I just caught him as he was doing a nose dive out. I am going to move him to a toddler bed to avoid him getting hurt. He is our 4th child so I have done this before but this is my last child and he is my baby and I am feeling like OMG he can't he is still a baby! I guess I am fto put up in the door way. reaking out. I think this is going to be harder on me than on him. He just turned 2 in October is he to young? He shares a room with his older sister (she is 7) and in the morning she uasualy gets him out of the crib to play in their room for a few minutes before everyone else gets up anyway and I have a baby gate to put up in the doorway, but has anyone else put their kids in a bed this young? I think my daughter was even younger and my 4 year old stayed in his crib untill after 3. My step son who is 6 went to a bed at 3 also. I know I am probably freaking out over nothing. I guess I just need some reasurance as I said after this I will never have a crib in my hoouse again!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well I DH and I got his crib out and toddler bed in and he is up for his nap. He right away tried to climb over the baby gate so I raised the gate so he can't get over it. He likes his "big boy bed." He shares a room with his older sister who is 7 and that makes me feel better as she is very protective of him and will keep an eye out for him. I guess I just wasn't ready. It never even crossed my mind that he would need toget out of his crib. But we are doing good.

My oldest was 22 months old when he fell on his head climbing out of his crib. I put him in a toddler bed that night and he did fine with it. I never even put up a baby gate or anything, except in front of the stairs. Good luck and enjpy this next stage.

I would say he is too big for a toddler bed. They are for toddlers and your son is older, toddlers are 12 months up to 2 years old.

Go straight for a mattress on the floor.

All three of my kids were out of their crib well before they turned two. However, I never used a toddler bed. I viewed toddler beds as a waste of money. All of my kids went straight from the crib to a twin sized bed. I had bought bed rails to prevent falling out of the bed. It worked for me with all of my kids.

If your son is crawling out of the crib, then it is definitely time to get rid of the crib.

i tried the toddler bed. what a waste they grow out of it too soon so the next child we bought a bed and it worked fine and we saved money. they wont get hurt if you put a bed gate so they wont fall out. so save your money on a toddler bed.

Glad things are going well. My son is our last one and I wasn't ready for him to grow up-he'll be 8 in April and I am still in denial lol When we moved from apartment to house we had to make the decision-take the toddler bed or just move everybody up to a twin-I also a daughter who is 19 months older than her brother. So at 16 months old we put him in a twin bed with side rails. He did just fine.

My son turned 2 in December. He is big for his age, although he never tried to climb out of the crib he was jsut getting too big to lift. We moved him to a toddler bed (his crib converted) in September & he has done fabulous! I think he saw his older brother in a bed & knew exactly what to do. they do each have their own room & we did put gates up for a while because the older one would try to wake him up. But all has been well ever since! Good luck!

All three of my children went from the crib to a toddler bed at 18 months. My boys because they were getting too heavy for me to lift with my back problems and because I was afraid they will fall trying to climb out. My boys were in the 95% and 97% in height and weight. My daughter, I just put her in a toddler bed at 18 months because that is what I had did with the boys. She only weigh half of what they did at 18 months. In fact she just turned 3 and still does not weight as much as they did at 18 months. I did have a gate at the doorway to keep them from wandering the house at night or early morning. I also made absolutely sure that the room was safe for a loose toddler.

I don't know if this will help, but my son's crib converts to a toddler bed by taking the front piece off... if yours does that, maybe it will help ease the transition? Good luck!

I moved my daughter to a big girl (twin) bed at 12 months. Everyone thought we were crazy, but it's worked out perfectly for us.
We actually got a bed thats extendibe so we made it a little smaler then a twin in length but the width is the same as a twin (from Ikea). She's never fallen out, never roamed the house, always been comfortabe.
He isn't too young, it can be done, and he will probaby be fine. Especially if he has his sister in the room with him. Good Luck! =)

Our son was climbing out at 14mos, so he went to a twin on the floor with side rails. Turns out, it wasn't the best bed for him, and I fought getting him a bigger bed (thinking he's only a toddler, for goodness sakes, why does he need a bigger bed????), but he moves a ton in his sleep and once we got him a full size at 29mos'ish its been smooth sailing. Good luck!

No he is not too young. Some kids go in a toddler bed at two and others at three. If he is trying to climb out and there is no way to prevent him from doing so this is probably best. My son went in a toddler bed at three because we were able to lower the mattress enough so he could not climb out of it. I know that he is your baby but you need to keep in mind that he is going to get bigger and grow up no matter what you do. I think when the crib is gone you may be happy that there are no babies in the house. Next is potty training which will keep you busy. At the different ages there are many things that you can enjoy.

I have 3 boys ages 10,8,7 it depends on size is how I judged it and who climbs out. If they can climb out it's a safety issue at that point and I'd get them into a toddler bed all of mine were about 2 in not 2 when they went into a toddler bed.
It's ok he's been in a crib 2 yrs that's a while takes time for parents to be used to more sometimes then the child (lol).
He's getting to be a big boy and he needs safety for a toddler bed before you are icing a head bump. With this new found freedom remember to have some type of safety lock on the front/back door so he can open them if he gets out of his room. I also put up a gate at my kids rooms but sooner or later they climb over that as well. I however trained them to come to my room again for me it seemed safer that way.
I know the feeling my 7 yr old is the baby I put him on my lap the other day he's almost as tall as me (i'm only 5'1") I said wow remember when you were a baby? he said yes you were bigger what happened? I couldn't only laugh. They grow before your eyes.
He'll be fine, best wishes.

From one mom who has experienced a toddler who broke her collar bone from a fall, you need to remove the crib. If your "baby" is scaling the side of the crib, either getting in or out, it's time to dismantle the crib. It's dangerous and I'm sure in your heart you know this. I never bought a toddler bed. Couldn't see how it was cost effective so I removed the crib but left the crib mattress on the floor until we were ready (could afford) a twin bed. He will always be your baby, btw regardless if you have a crib up or not. ; )
