We just found out that my 4 year old daughter's good friend is moving away. Their new house is still in town, but she is used to them being right next door. She has been crying ever since we found out and I can't seem to console her. I've tried explaining that her friend still lives in town and we can go over and play once they get settled in, but nothing helps. If anyone has any idea's, please help. Thanks alot.

What can I do next?

WOW, sounds like you have a ton going on(your bio). I'm not sure if I have the best advice...only what I would do.

I think her going through a grieving process is fine and probably healthy. Just keep reassuring her and maybe let her call her friend on the phone so she can reassure her she's not far away. Maybe even drive by and show her their new house because to your daughter they could be living half way around the world.

In the end she will be fine and learned a good'ol life lesson!

Good Luck!

thank god you and your family are not military people, because it could be like my family...moving every 3-4 yrs...just keep reassuring her that she'll get to see her lil' buddy and then set up a play date for her asap. maybe even invite the lil' friend over for a lil' slumber party.

One suggestion that I have is to drive her over to the friend's new house. Show her that it isn't that far away, and that she will be able to come over and visit often.
We had this situation in reverse, we moved to the other side of town, and this helped my daughter. We made several trips back and forth, and even used a timer so that she could see how close she was.
Good luck,
J.

anthing is just a phone call away. Let her talk on the phone for reassurance. She's a big girl now and smart enough to miss her best friend, most kids forget right away. Maybe you can go over and see if they need any help gertting things in order, that's neighborly. Let me know. Be patient
