My friend's daughter woke up with a huge lump behind her ear. It was painful. Mom took her to the doctor. Doctor said he is not sure what it is and put her on an antibiotic. The next day the swelling from the lump had moved to her face. Her face got really swollen and there are three more lumps around, behind and next to the ear. After being on the medication for 2 days the swelling in her face has gone down but the lumps are still there. Has anyone ever had this?

Thanks

I agree with previous posters. I'm not an alarmist by any means, and use the doctor as a last resort. However, what you describe sounds worrisome. I would encourage your friend to seek out more testing with the current doctor or with a new doctor. You didn't mention how old the daughter is, but swelling in the lymphatic areas can indicate a host of different things, some of them very serious. I would encourage your friend to err on the side of caution and push for better answers.

Please keep us posted on what your friend finds out.

We are not doctors... your friend needs to get a 2nd opinion.

Please urge your friend to have her child checked again -- by another doctor. This sounds like more than just a swollen lymph node; the nodes are on the neck just under the ear, so the initial swelling sounds like it's possibly that -- but the moving to the face and the presence of other distinct lumps on the face is strange to me. It may be going down some but I would still take my child to be checked again, immediately, by another doctor if this one is blowing it off or not investigating further for a possible allergic reaction or other cause. Please post again here with an update!

Swollen glands can last quite some time after an infection even after antibiotics. And we have glands all over your body. However, I would have your friend have her daughter checked again just to be on the safe side.

I am not trying to scare you, but my friend had odd, sudden swelling in the face--she was being treated with antibiotics for a cold/sinus/flu etc. She was then diagnosed with leukemia.
Has she been sick? Tired? Run down?

Hope it's just a swollen lymph node & she's better fast.

Well...behind your ear are lymph nodes....typically they enlarge when there is an infection going on.....

One of my kids had a lump behind the ear and it was a swollen lymph node. I can't remember if he had a cold or if it was allergy related, but it went away on its own.
