My youngest will only eat fresh fruit, and sometimes its on sale at the store. Does anyone know if I can freeze it?

What can I do next?

Yes! What I do is buy the fruit, cut it into chunks, then stick it in ziplock freezer bags and into the freezer. My son likes to chew on the frozen fruit - it helps him a lot when he's teething.

Good Morning S.,

You have a good question on fresh fruit. Allot of fruit you can freeze. My favorite is grapes. Bring them home, remove them from the vines, wash them, pat them dry and put them in ziplock baggies. You can take them out and pop a frozen one in your mouth when you are hot. A great treat!! You can also put them in koolaid as a treat and instead of ice. Or you can thaw them before use.

Other good fruit to freeze is berries. Raspberries, blueberries and blackberries are good to wash, pat dry and put on a cookie sheet to freeze. Once frozen then put them into ziplock baggies and keep in the freezer for future use.

Don't forget strawberries! Just remember to wash and pat dry before freezing. This helps to keep them from sticking together. I would also use a cookie sheet to freeze first, then put into a ziplock bag.

For other fruit you might try looking up on the internet for ideas. I know you can do any of the melons but you would need to blend them up first and keep in a freezer container. The melons are full of water and will become mushy if left in their whole state or chunked up. This also allows them to be ready for that smoothie you crave or a dollop added to yogurt or ice cream for flavoring. There might be better ideas for melons on the internet as well.

I hope these ideas have helped you.

God Bless, Lilly :)

Hi S.,

You can freeze fruit and also buy frozen fruit, I buy it frozen already, I like it frozen in the summer time, but I don't think it will be good if you defrost it, it will be kind of mushy. But my kids will eat them frozen, let them be out of the freezer for a while so they are not hard but not completely unfrzen to taste better.

Check out the freezer in the store and see what is it that they sell frozen, so far I bought berries, pineapple (the best!), mango, and mixed fruit with cantaloupe, grapes, peaches and strawberries.

Enjoy! :)

You can pretty much freeze any fruit with the exception of melons. The problem is that after you've defrosted most frozen fruit the consistency will have changed, so if your son is only eating fresh fruit because of the consistency, then I wouldn't recomend freezing. If it's about flavor, frozen can sometimes be even better. Defrosting can acutally make some fruits pretty syrupy (all natural of course). Melon is pretty much ruined after freezing unless you're just going to blend it right away though, and bananas will always turn brown once out of their peel, even if frozen.

I think you can freeze most fruits, normally they are softer the have been frozen.

You could also make smoothies out of the frozen fruit, add ice, yogurt and orange juice if needed.

My son LOVES when I make them.

yes! It doesn't always defrost to be the same texture (sometimes a little mushy) and you want to defrost it in the fridge, not the microwave, but it turns out fine. Sometime when my bananas get dark I just through them in the freezer skin and all, it makes for an ugly skin but the fruits fine!

I freeze ALL the left-over fruit from any meal we have, and use them later for smoothies. This works great. However, you can't really UNFREEZE fruit, because something about the water content of fruit makes thawed fruit have a totally unappealing texture...

We froze some watermelon and canelope once to take on a pinic. The kids loved it. I think it seems softer than normal, but considering it was cool it tasted good. My suggestion is just give a few pieces of what ever you want to freeze and try it out. I don't believe it could harm anything. Good luck.

Sure you can.My Mom freezes it all of the time.My kids love to eat it frozen also. It's like a treat only it's not a sweet! They love frozen grapes.I would think if you froze bananas you would need to peel them first. You could even use this as an alternative to ice cream! Some fruit you might want to peel and slice before yu freeze it.Like Kiwi but I would think you could freeze pretty much any of it.
