Can I just place the bread loaf in its original packaging in the freezer? Is there anything special I need to do to avoid freezer burn?

What can I do next?

I do this all the time with my bread. Anything will get freezer burn eventually, but unless you are going to leave it in there for more than six months it should be all right!

My mom would freeze the bread by just throwing it in the freezer and like mentioned, unless you will leave it there for a long time, no problems with burn. One thing to check though is there there are no small holes at the folds of the packaging. I do this even if I don't freeze the bread. My grandmother would freeze half a loaf by taking out half and putting it in a ziploc storage bag for the countertop.

yes.
that is what I do.
No problem.
Take it out and leave it on the counter, to 'defrost' when you want to use it.
It thaws out well and quick.

Yep, I throw mine in the freezer all the time too. Never been an issue. To defrost I just put it in the fridge the night before I want to use it.

I have been freezing loaves of bread for a long time. I did discover by mistake that the bread tastes fresher out of my upright freezer that is NOT frost free. I made the mistake of putting loaves in my refrigerator freezer (frost free) a few times and couldn't figure out why the bread suddenly tasted dried out. I almost quit buying it it tasted that bad. I haven't made that mistake since.

There is nothing special I do - just throw them in the original wrapping and it lasts for months. I've also found freezing my bread extends the shelf life once it is thawed. In the summer bread would sometimes turn moldy before the due date but if it had been previously frozen it can sit on the counter much longer than if it had never been frozen.

I do this all the time. Buy it at the store, bring it home and into the freezer. No additional prep or packaging. It is fine as long as you do not leave it in the freezer for too long. I would suggest 1 month or less.
