Spring Break is next week and I will have my 2 nephews (10, 9) and a niece (9) spending the week with us, I also have 2 kids of my own (9, 5). I need to find some no cost or very low cost activities for us to do when they are here. We don't plan on spending the entire week out and about but I don't want them to come here and spend the whole time at the house. I'm not looking for things like take them to the park , I'm looking to find things in the city we can go to and have fun. If you live in San Antonio or know anything about SA please let me know about them. I also don't mind going out to Austin or any other city that is not too far from us. We do plan on going either to ZDT's or Austin Park as our big expensive outing. Any help would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

The San Antonio Zoo is affordable and you can make a day of it by packing a picnic and enjoying the park and Zoo train. Also, the Riverwalk Extension is free and beautiful. Also, several museums, such as the Witte have free admission in the afternoon. Go to their websites for info. The Alamo and all other missions in town are free to visit with guided tours and tons of interesting stuff for kids to see, many are interactive as well, again, check their websites. Good luck and have a great Spring break!

The Witte Museum is free on Tuesday evenings. Check out their website for details.

Inflatable Wonderland is only $5.00 per kid for the whole day on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The Alamo is free to visit, but you have to pay for parking. On weekdays parking is less expensive. You could also visit the Hemisphere park while you're downtown, it's free. Of course walking along the Riverwalk is fun, too.

McCalister park has some great trails for hiking and a dog park.

I subscribe to www.stoneoak.macaronikid.com it is a website that highlights all of the kid and family friendly activities in Stone Oak and Far North Central San Antonio. There is a downtown version too www.downtownsanantonio.macaronikid.com.

Most of the events they list are free.

* the San Antonio Zoo is not very expensive. Breckenridge Park is right down by zoo and is free for exploring, picnic lunch, watching the ducks....

* hike and play at Eisenhower Park. (NW Military just outside 1604) good hiking trails---some short, some long....there are maps. Be careful what hike you pick with a 5 year old.

* walk around La Cantera Mall. Interesting mall with lots of things to see....can make that a low cost day.

* open swim times at one of the indoor pools, if they swim! NEISD and NISD should have open swim times and entrance is a couple bucks.
