So What Happened?

Thank You everyone for your advice and help !! Im just going too continue her on Similac and pay out of pocket for it if WIC can't help me . WIC told me they have a contract for Emfamil that I can't have Similac . I go back too WIC on Thursday after Her Doctors appointment . Im going too speak with her doctor and Wic . Wish me luck !! I see that The ingredients in the formulas are different . I think the Vegetable Oil was too hard on her .. I gave her a few bottles and She screamed her head off .Similac is made with Safflower oil and Soy oil . I hated seeing her that way . Her father and I just said will will work extra too pay for the formula . She is happy and doing great :) !! Giuliana turned One Month on the Dec. 30th :)

Yep.

My son got violently ill from gentle ease formula.
Other kids will get violently ill from your baby's perfect formula.

SOMETIMES you can transition babies by mixing 25/75, 50/50, 75/25... But most of the time, not. Formulas are all different (same nutrition, different ways of getting there)... Because babies react differently to them (projectile vomiting, reflux, gas, constipation, sleep issues).

In order for WIC to change your formula type... You have to go through a doctor who can document their reaction to the formula.

Even then, it depends on your local WIC office on whether or not they'll do a brand change or ONLY do 1 brand + Nutrimigen (and that's a major pain to get from WIC, but they will).

What many moms I know do... They get the WIC formula, and then exchange it for the brand that doesn't make their babies sick. Formula is tricky to exchange (it usually cannot leave the store), so you'll need to work with the store to be able to do so AHEAD of time. There's also usually a price difference (couple dollars).

In the meantime... Take your baby to the doctor.

It starts the documentation process, and your led will usually have samples of formula... So you can switch back, or start mixing. And then make an appt with your WIC office, to find out if they'll work with you on brand/type or if you need to work outside they system.

If you don't have any luck getting WIC to change the formula, then you are going to have to start to mix, but it sounds like you will need to do it slowly. Rather than starting with 25% / 75% I would go with even less. For instance if she's taking an 8 oz bottle, start with 1 oz enfamil and 7 oz similac for one day; then 2 oz enfamil and 6 oz similac on day 2, and so on, gradually increasing the enfamil until you're at 100%. Good luck.

Call your case manager and ask to have the formula changed and how to do that. It might help to have the doctor to write a prescription for the specific formula that works.

My daughter was on WIC and her pediatrician wrote a prescription for Nutrimagen which WIC honored.

Ask the WIC person for the change and go from there.

I would try the Enfamil for a couple of days. Her screaming with the first serving may just be coincidental. Something else may be going on with her.
